Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey have been co-parenting their twins ever since they divorced in 2016. Nick revealed he landed in his ex-wife’s bad books recently over a gift he gave to their kids Monroe and Moroccan, 10.

He said: ‘My oldest twins, Roc and Roe, wanted a cell phone at 8. And they have iPads, and I was all for it – I am all about it.
‘But Mariah was like, “Uh-uh, they ain’t gonna be googling us! Learning about all their new brothers and sisters, no. We aren’t playing.”‘
‘And I respected it at 8. But then we kinda made a deal, so we said at 10, then they can have it.
‘Mariah was still like, “Uh-uh, no!” So at 10, I snuck, and I still got them the cell phones for their birthday.’

Mariah wasn’t happy about it as Nick claimed: ‘Mariah is still mad at me to this day.’

As she should be. It’s a questionable decision for normal families to give cell phones at that age. But even worse to give them to 10 year olds who have famous parents and as such end up living under a microscope. They should not have that level of access to the internet at all times.

With the way stalkers and creeps can track down locations from social media sites/ posts, I don’t blame her at all for being upset.

Good on Mariah, having someone as famous as her as a mother must be hard to navigate when it comes to parenting.

I don't even know why Nick is so for it, if I read some of the stuff that he said about Mariah as a kid, I would be terrified. So glad Mariah and him are not together anymore.

I'm going to side with Nick on this one.  Whatever anyone thinks about phones and being connected, it's how the world is right now, and it's not going to change.  Excluding your kids from a world everyone else is a part of puts them at a disadvantage and makes them feel like they're missing something other kids are getting.

If i had a kid no cell phone id buy a flip phone to call me and thats it, then a cell at maybe 13. But I don't think letting a kid go to social media is healthy they'll find a lot of weird stuff that can traumatize them. They'd be allowed to go on the internet with a big desktop PC from time to time and id block certain websites. Yeah sounds strict but like... at 8 years old ur not supposed to be on youtube and then end up clicking things and u end up watching a video of a man drowning. At 8 i was outside on a bike playing with kids and living in the real world. My cousins at 7 or even less 6, they were on their smartphone 24/7, who knows what they saw in there. And my cousin started an IG she was 9 or 10, and i checked it out and saw a grown man following her. Pdf are there and are very happy for kids to be ons ocial media, it's gross, u gotta protect them ur the parent

A ten year old should not have a phone. Famous parents or not. I’ve seen fourth graders with the most up to date phone and Apple watches. Like why? :saladga:

I don't think children of millionaire celebrities are "disadvantaged".

There is no reason why a 10 year old needs a cell phone. Children do not need these type of technology until they are much older.  7th grade seems to be an appropriate age since that's when kids are usually becoming more involve with extra curriculars in their lives that necessitate the use of a phone.

You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.

Normally I'd say give the kids cell phones. But they can research Mariah maybe she's not ready to have a conversation about her past with them. They are too young IMO.

It's different for kids of celebrities. Stalkers can track them down. Also lots of people are terrible to celebrities online. They could run into alot of hate towards their mom or dad that could afect their mental health  Many things can happen. I'm siding with Mariah on this.

just because you have advantages in one area doesn't mean you're not disadvantaged in other areas.  they're people and they have desires and interests just like everyone else.  privilege is gross but it's a fact of life

I'm sure their desires and interests, as 10 year olds, are being far surpassed with the various high-end opportunities available to them.
