Bradley 57,206
55 on Metacritic, based on 42 reviews. https://www.metacritic.com/movie/the-eyes-of-tammy-faye-2021 64% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 162 reviews. The consensus reads: The Eyes of Tammy Faye might have focused more sharply on its subject's story, but Jessica Chastain's starring performance makes it hard to look away. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_eyes_of_tammy_faye_2021 Some Best Actress discussion: As of now, both Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Hudson's movies have received mixed reviews (60+ on RT) though they were praised for their performances. Frances McDormand and Kristen Stewart's movies have been critically acclaimed (90%-100% on RT). McDormand might go for Supporting, but we don't know yet. Kristen is definitely going for lead, and it seems she has the best chance of winning the Best Actress trophies in the award season. Penelope Cruz's movie Parallel Mothers is also acclaimed, though her performance is receiving less buzz than her peers'. However, given how all actresses have been praised for their performances, and that the criticisms were only directed to the writing and directing of the movies, it is not unlikely that someone might triumph over Kristen Stewart. Rami Malek won for Bohemian Rhapsody which had 50%+ on RT, and Andra Day won the Golden Globe for the Billie Holiday biopic when it has a similar score. People also expected her to win the Oscar initially. What this means for Gaga is highly dependent on how great her performance is. Almost everyone has praised her acting even if they were questioning other aspects of the film. The question is, how great is she? Nomination-worthy great or award-worthy great? We probably will have more info next week as the movie premieres officially at the Academy Museum (Bradley's movie will also premiere there!). Bradley 57,206
If not Gaga, then my second choice would actually be Chastain.
mamo 17,770
if I’m being completely honest this is Kristen Stewart’s Oscar to lose. I mean her film is pretty much oscar bait i.e a film about a royal figure, she’s undergone a physical transformation unlike before and the film itself is critically acclaimed. I’m not setting any expectations yet for Gucci although I’m sure Gaga will be great but it really depends how the film is executed overall which might be its biggest detriment. Let’s just hope for the best! you can serve it to me ancient city style...
azul 2,088
I think it's too early to tell. I would say that when a movie or an actor is pointed as a possible winner this soon in the race, usually they end up losing their momentum near the vote. It actually may be good for Gaga that her film is premiering later. However, Gaga is trying to get a nomination, not a win. I think her acting career is still too young to be awarded at that level. I don't see the Academy giving the Oscar to Gaga no matter how good her performance is, just because she still is seen as the singer. But we'll see. I feel like all these films are Oscar baits in a way... biopics that are part of the larger trend of actors portraying real life people and hence having to change their mannerisms and looks to impress. But there are biopics that are more baity than others for sure, imo Respect is the most obvious Oscar bait cause we have had very successful musical biopics (Queen, Billie Holiday, Judy Garland) and it seems like Respect was jumping on that trend. I mean I have to disagree everytime someone says "you won't win an Oscar because your career is not long enough". I think the Academy is made up of professional actors and filmmakers who are able to evaluate quality with the careers of the filmmakers left behind in their minds. Andra Day's Oscar nominated role was actually her first role and people didn't go like "Oh she's new and talented, maybe she will get nominated and win in 8 years time". They went "Oh wow she's new and she's very convincing in it and it's so effective we might as well consider her chances of winning." Sure she didn't win an Oscar but she won a Golden Globe, which means people don't really care if her career was young. If Gaga loses the Oscar, then to me it's more likely due to the writing and directing than the age of her career.

However I feel like because Diana is such a beloved and well-known figure that it will probably work in Kristen's favour. This year is quite stacked though, most of the best actress front runners are playing real-life figures. It's still too early to call, but if I had to bet right now I'd put my money on KS in Spencer. you can serve it to me ancient city style...
RAMROD 104,282
Some of you who talk about Oscars already seems to forget, or unaware, that Olivia Colman and Frances McDormand are starring in new movies this year. It could be Olivia's 2nd Oscars with her acting as lead on The Lost Daughter, or The Academy could give it to Frances again for her Lady Macbeth performance after her win this year. I know do sure the trades are championing them so far on their prediction lists.

Same for Cate Blanchett The only other films which were early in the discussion for Best Actress were Mass, Belfast and Coda. It is definitely going to be the most competitive field yet again.
