Weed originates from South-East Asia, according to new study

But a new study published on Friday in the journal Science Advances suggests that East Asia is the more likely source, and that all existing strains of the plant come from an “ancestral gene pool” represented by wild and cultivated varieties growing in China today.

The study’s authors found that the plant was a “primarily multipurpose crop” grown about 12,000 years ago during the early Neolithic period, probably for fiber and medicinal uses.

Farmers began breeding the plant specifically for its mind-altering properties about 4,000 years ago, as cannabis began to spread into Europe and the Middle East, the authors of the study said. gettyimages-1229182048_web.jpg

Michael Purugganan, a professor of biology at New York University who read the study, said the usual assumption about was that they domesticated the plant for food.

“That seems to be the most pressing problem for humans then: How to get food,” said Professor Purugganan, who was not involved in the research. “The suggestion that even early on they were also very concerned with fiber and even intoxicants is interesting. It would bring to question what were the priorities of these Neolithic societies.”

To conduct the study, Dr. Ren and his colleagues collected 82 samples, either seeds or leaves, from around the world.

I think I’ve only ever had hybrids, but I tried a pure sativa a few weeks ago and it was a horror show. Like neeeooooo, uh uh. It was so strong I was convinced that I permanently changed my brain chemistry for a few hours :messga:

I LOVE WEED SO MUCH Snoop Dogg GIF by MOODMAN

Same!!

Not only is it fun lol, but it has been instrumental in my battle against anxiety and depression. It cures my nausea and lack of appetite that comes with high anxiety. And when I'm experiencing a depressive episode, it is often the only thing that helps break me out of my negative thought cycles and lifts my mood.

We even know it can help with opioid addiction. It makes me furious that not everyone has easy and legal access to it! And that it can't be properly researched.

So grateful to live in a state where recreational weed is fully legal, and the products are *chef's kiss*

Are we the same person ? :selena:

I feel the exact same way especially in the morning. You think your nausea come from anxiety ? I hate it so much in the morning. I learned to just eat in the morning although I don't like eating right when I wake up.

I don't understand how alcohol is legal and available basically everywhere, to anyone, at any time. Meanwhile some people think weed is just as bad as Heroin ot fentanyl or **** like that :billie:

Good for you sis! Meanwhile im here waiting for my plug to reply:ladyhaha:

Yes!! My doctor said anxiety can definitely cause gastrointestinal issues. I am mildly nauseous pretty much all the time from some medications I'm on and I feel the same way as you in the morning; uninterested in food but I make myself eat because I know it will make my body feel better.

But when I experience particularly high anxiety, it pushes my nausea into overdrive. When I have an intense anxiety attack, especially if I'm hyperventilating or unable to control my breath, I get extremely nauseous. I throw up probably half the time in that case if I just ride it out. But I can often tell when it's coming, and if I use cannabis before it gets too bad, I can usually prevent it from escalating.

And same, I can't believe people make the argument that alcohol is safer than cannabis!
