To say that the bar should be higher doesn't even begin to cover it.

I understand she was there because of the 15% pledge with vogue, but it all fell flat and now she's getting skewered by right and left wingers alike. You literally said you wished she had shown up in a dress that represented black culture or an emerging designer....which she did both lmao. What's not clicking sis? You might not like the look or the message, but there clearly was intention behind it.

Like it or not her message is making ppl talk about something other than "I love this look, I hate this look" but alas some of y'all plebs still feel the need to comment on how ugly she looks or criticize her for not doing enough please aoc has been anything but timid throughout her political career but like agree to disagree. You're calling a regular person a "pleb" while violently defending a celebrity that doesn't know that you exist from exceedingly mild criticism while pretending that you're the one who actually cares about the poor. That's... embarrassing.
StarstruckIllusion 41,974
not this thread full of clueless takes⊠yâall socialists/marxists arenât getting anything passed with 0 cultural relevance, it just wonât work/last. not everything she does has to be super serious. itâs certainly NOT how yâall live your lives. she does more to serve impact with her job then you will ever sheâs a marketing genius yet urs for support for her platform, and not an album or something. yâall can hate the dress but its not that deep.

That's... embarrassing. Pleb is not an insult. I am also a pleb- so another instance of you just focusing on negativity. We are plebs, ordinary people consuming celebrity content. I'm not embarrassed by that are you? "Violently" is another exaggeration. Confrontation and debate between opposing perspectives can be civil I don't 4gink I've been any more rude to you than you have been to me

"She does more to serve impact with her job than you ever will" - We're regular people. She's a celebrity and a politician with actual power. I would f*cking hope she actually uses her position to help more people than we could. She also serves US, the public, and we can criticize her if we find partying with celebrities at a dystopian event to be off-putting and corny.  Healed My Heart 39,406
I think it's great. AOC is one of the very few US congresspeople that aren't millionaires, and she made a statement about excessive wealth at an opulent event. I would be shocked if she was required to pay for a ticket, or her dress. She has been criticized before for being on magazine covers in designer clothes, but they are always borrowed and not her own. I think it's amazing that she has become a bit of a "celebrity" (at least more than most politicians ever are) because she can reach people who might never bother to get involved in politics on their own, but who may pick up an issue of Vogue or watch the Met Gala. America needs more engagement in politics and if this is one way to spark conversation, I see nothing bad about it. Not to mention, the theme was literally America. What better place to make a statement about our income inequality? She/her đđđ
Concertaholic 4,954
The dress was made by a young, black female designer. I think itâs quite bada** that she went to this event in this dress. Sometimes you have to go to the communities you disagree with and engage them in provoking conversation, debate, and education in order to change their minds and affect lasting change. gabeoz 7,895
She was invited to the event and wore a dress from a black small business owner to spread a message that sheâs been spreading since the beginning, yâall are trying to read way too much into this  Cringe/tacky? Maybe. But some of you are acting like she betrayed you in some way.

Its not about stanning⊠if youâre gonna criticize something, it just needs to make sense. It just doesnât. The way her being a congresswoman doesnât counter this out in some people eyes⊠itâs just not clear thinking. She really is outimpacting any performative rage on online with her daily job by miles. She makes one âerrorâ and people are literally trying to cancel her like plsss đ like Cara Delevine deserves more heat than AOC for her fit The way people didnât react to this like âhaha aw cuteâ and scrolled on⊠itâs just too weird !!
