Dawn of Chromatica has changed my view on the OG album.

I think the original album is so much better but it makes sense as I have always loved the original so much. The songs are good but on most of them I would rather listen to the original.

Been thinking of this a lot too, and to be honest I think part of the intention was to make it “simple” enough to be broken apart and remixed into oblivion. Basically like a complete album in itself but also kind of the idea with them releasing the individual parts of the album cover: it was made with the intention of being remixed and restyled over and over almost as if to encourage people to tell their stories through hers. Chromatica isn’t meant to be something super off-the-cusp, and because of that I think it holds a lot more value than some realize at first. Without the original, you don’t have DOC—and I think that’s kind of the point. Producers are going to remix that album for years to come and her building it the way she did makes that a lot more accessible to a lot more artists.

I've always loved original Chromatica, but DOC gave me new appreciation for it, too! Some of the songs have taken on new meanings for me with the remix, certain lyrics stand out in a different way, etc.

I also think it's interesting that my ranking of favorite songs is almost totally different between the versions. Some of my least faves on original Chromatica are my favorites on DOC, and vice versa.

Even in the more simplistic production elements and empty dance drops (which I never really hated in the first place) it just really makes more sense in my mind now that I'm revisiting the original tracks again, each song has such an upsetting contrast of hope and dark reflection.

I think it's important to remember that Chromatica was Gaga's way of finding the sound (sine) that would heal her enough to dance again, thus the album places a major focus on the music rather than the lyrics/choruses like her earlier work. It's sort of a rediscovery of sorts, and listening to it with that in mind really puts it into perspective

imho my favorite tracklisting would be something like this:

Chromatica I

Alice OG

SL OG

ROM OG

Free Woman Remix

Fun Tonight Remix

Chromatica II

911 OG/911 Charli AG cook remix (and extended long mix with elements of both mixes would be amazing starting with the original, and then transitioning into the charli version)

Plastic Doll OG/Plastic Doll Remix (maybe the OG mix should have had the added vocals by Ashnikko in the chorusses, and a beat switch to the remix version by the end of the song)

Sour Candy OG

Replay Dorian Remix

Chromatica III

SFA Original with the Outro of Lil Texas

1000 Doves Piano version Intro, switching into the OG version (similar to how Gypsy builds from accoustic to EDM)

Babylon OG with the Bree verse and beat switch to Hauslabs version as Outtro.

And then we wake up :vegas:

While I still think the original Chromatica songs are superior, I am happy to have a companion remix album. DOC reminded me how good Chromatica was. I somewhat lost aspect of Chromatica throughout 2020 because of Covid, but seeing that Gaga and her team and the other artists on DOC worked hard to deliver a good remix album unlike she has ever released before, reminded me how much effort Gaga put into the album and era… despite what us LM thought about how we perceived Gaga abandoned the album. I am sure now…that the closer we get to the tour, Gaga will continue to release content and promote the era.
