Any collections are matter to individuals who collected it. Whatever that is. His parents could have asked first. It might seems useless and just pr0n items to them, but it means differently to their son. So this lawsuit is pretty much OK since it seems he felt such a loss from it.

Also even if the collection didn’t “mean” something to him, he still spent thousands on collecting it so I feel he’s completely in the right to collect money for it.

The man was divorced. I wonder what the former wife thought about VHS tapes. This man should have modernized his collection anyway but it’s perhaps the hoarder in him that has emotional connections with his possessions, regardless of their pron or not.

It took me a good 5 minutes to understand why you wrote pron :air:

Who tf moves into their parents house as an adult and unabashedly brings their 30 thousand dollars worth of p0rn and sex toys, then expects to live there rent free, and then expects their dad to drop their belonging off to them when they move out?... Including their 30 thousand dollar trove of p0rn and sex toys

I totally understand him being upset with them throwing away/destroying something that valuable that he had been collecting for years... but why do you need to move your p0rn and sex toys into your parents house in the first place?? And then expect them to go through all that sh.it and drop it off to you??? Unhinged behaviour

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

If I'm understanding the article correctly: he lived with them, was forced to leave, (probably wasn't allowed to return to get his things) and the parents started boxing his things. As the parents were packing things up, they found the stash, and said in the email that they "immediately" started destroying it. So, they didn't wait, they didn't consult him, they didn't give him a chance to claim the items. That they admitted this in an email is probably the legal reason he is entitled to reimbursement. It also seems like this sequence of events took place in a relatively short timespan, and its only now being resolved in the court.

Im not sure id have taken my parents to court tho

Get $30,000 now but create a rift where i might be taken off the will? Not a good trade off tbh :enigma:

Exactly.

The parents may have been wrong, but suing your own parents is not a good idea.  I wouldn't be surprised if he never sees or hears from them again and they change the locks on their house.

Ive come to learn that even in situations where u feel quite strongly that your in the right (and maybe the law even backs u up)... it doesnt always mean its gonna be to your benefit to force the issue. Often it will backfire in other ways even if u win that particular battle

I know someone who got fired recently in some construction company and he thinks its because he called the ministry of labor and they been trying to find a legal reason to get rid of him ever since

Thing is, hes the type of person to make mountains out if molehills for every little thing. Wouldnt surprise me at all if he threatned to call the ministry for every trivial infraction and they decided he was more trouble than he was worth

Yeah he won that particular battle when he called the ministry but now hes out of a job as a consequence :rip:

Id only ever go a legal route with someone (or a company) if #1 its a serious matter... and #2 i tried to work it out with them first and it didnt work

But for smaller stuff sometimes its a smaller loss to just accept the loss, than the loss you take in trying to win

And in this case $30,000 is not small on its own but compared to value of son and parent relationship not to mention maybe a will too if were adding money... suddenly its a big cost for $30,000

Yes, it's important to weigh the potential consequences.  That goes for both sides.  His parents may not have thrown the stuff away if they had thought things through.  Same with him suing.  It's not always fair, but humans often act on emotion rather than logic.  Chances are both sides would have acted differently in hindsight.

To each their own. Could be he felt that this was such a betrayal (on top of having been forced to leave, with law enforcement getting involved) that the relationship was shot (to him) anyway. I don't have all the information obviously, but from what I can glean, the son is a sh!tty person, and the parents reacted in kind. Even if they had good intentions, they didn't have any right to destroy his possessions. I have my doubts that their relationship would have survived even without the lawsuit.
