Manchester Pride sparks furious debate by announcing Yungblud as headliner

Yungblud, who is pansexual, will take to the stage at Manchester Pride on Saturday (28 August).
He was announced as a “secret performer” on Friday morning – but it wasn’t long before disgruntled festival-goers shared their dissatisfaction with the decision.

Countless LGBT+ people hit out at Manchester Pride for selecting the queer musician over a more well-known pop superstar, while others were just unhappy organisers had picked a man to perform.

The criticism ranged from the tone-deaf to the outright ridiculous – some Manchester Pride-goers were simply unhappy festival organisers had failed to book one of the usual “big pop girls”, while others complained that they had bought tickets.

Many LGBT+ festival revellers defended Yungblud, with many pointing out that it’s actually a sign of progress that an LGBT+ artist has been given a headline slot at Manchester Pride.

Other artists set to take to the stage on Saturday include Sigala, Katy B, Example, Eve and Mykki Blanco, while Zara Larsson, Ella Henderson, Gabrielle, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Lucy Spraggan, Jodie Harsh, Shura and many others will perform on Sunday.

Cruelty

(Whilst everybody is getting riled up by a headliner announcement, the real outrage here is that Manchester Pride has stopped funding safe sex projects and HIV/Aids charities whilst its chief executive's pay rise takes his salary to around £100k)

I mean, know your audience. I understand the disappointment, even though personally I wouldn't make a deal out of it. It's still good they're giving the stage to an actual LGBT+ person.

Is this actually happening widespread or media just trying to make it look worse than it is?

How many tweets does a fury make?

Manchester pride is already being ripped to shreds because of the funding pulled from the pioneering safe sex packs, and all funding cut from George House Trust that offers councillors and HIV/AIDS support.

The director is an ass hat and needs to resign. This is the first manchester pride I won't be attending in over a decade. I will continue to support the lgbt bars and spaces once this charade of a pride is finished on Monday.

But uproar about a performer is ridiculous.
