When she began playing in clubs to promote The Fame I know that her label gave her a small budget for costumes and props. I don’t remember which one but in an interview she said that instead of buying a lot of cheaper costumes, she spent all the money on two iconic and designer quality outfits, which were the origami dresses ( the black and gold and then the white one). Also the main reason she used her disco stick was because lighting was so expensive, so it was used for lighting.
