Dozens Of Afghan Refugees Anticipated To Resettle In Texas

According to Refugee Services of Texas, it’s anticipated around 30,000 Afghans will be resettled in the U.S. in the coming weeks, many of whom will be temporarily housed at Fort Bliss in El Paso.

Refugee Services of Texas said it has plans to settle 324 Afghans over the next few weeks in Austin, Houston, Dallas and Fort Worth.

“Afghan nationals who cooperated with the U.S. military are in a highly volatile and dangerous situation as the Taliban overruns the country. We have an obligation as Americans to support those who gave everything to help our nation, and we must act now to ensure these refugees are evacuated and transported to safety,” Refugee Services of Texas said in a statement.

The breakdown of refugees from Refugee Services of Texas is as follows: 

Austin - 107

Dallas - 108

Fort Worth - 69

Houston - 40

 

Incoming Afghans, Refugee Services of Texas said, have applied for Special Immigrant Visas and will undergo security background checks as well as health screenings.

Refugee Services of Texas has aided approximately 2,400 refugees from Afghanistan and Iraq who are in possession of special visas since 2010.

Not enough. There are literally over 150k to 200k Afghans who helped the US and the West (not the mention their family members who will be tortured if left behind). This number could be as high as 500k people who need to leave! They need to be all taken out of there ASAP. They will be the first to be attacked by the Taliban as they are viewed as traitors who helped in the massacre of 150k innocent Afghan civilians when they were just working with the West in hopes that their nation could progress...

We, the West actually have a MORAL obligation to take them ALL in. This is not an economic migrant wave type of thing where we can pick and choose who comes in because there is not too much urgency. This is literally life and death. We need to let them all in. We have an obligation because we invaded this nation, we hired them and we promised them security should anything like this happen. Now that it has happened we are proving the Taliban right by not taking in the interpretors sooner. This process should have began weeks ago when the Taliban was quickly snatching up more land and cities...not now when it is almost too late to save them...so heartbreaking. Another betrayal from the West to the Middle Easterns we invade and promise "help" and progress to. How many times must we ruin this part of the world and lie to people of this part of the world and expect them to STILL like us? This is insane. I literally am feeling physically sick...shame on us.

Keep in mind this is only news from Texas. Other states might doing it too.

I really hope so..my fear is that by the time we try to snatch them out of there a huge portion of them will already be dead, tortured or imprisoned. We really needed to begin this process weeks ago...everyone knew the Taliban was going to win. The way they snatched land so quickly should have been a major sign

Well, the European countries and the US will probably publicize the few refugees they take and then ask countries like Turkey or something to take millions of them, as it was with the Syrian refugees too. Typical.

It's not like any of the countries involved see refugees as humans, they see them as a burden that they would very much like to be rid of, or political pawns.

exactly. Middle Eastern nations that can host Afghans are already swamped. Turkey has 4 million Syrians. THAT"S INSANE. Lebanon...a tiny poor nation has like 1.6 million Syrians, Jordan and Egypt have a huge amount as well...I understand that culturally and religiously they may be more alike but to ask these nations to ALSO add the Afghans to their mix...a people who do not speak the same language and are very different culturally is insane just because they are Muslim? Ridiculous. The only Middle Eastern nations that are stable and have not hosted massive amounts of Syrians are the Arab Gulf States like Saudi Arabia and the UAE but those nations are just disgusting and indifferent. They do not care and will not care to help.

We caused a lot of this chaos by pulling out the way we did...we owe it to these interpreters and their families that we take each and everyone of them out and that we send them to the West and nations that partook in this Afghan War. Our politicians (including the right wingers) have to ZIP IT. This is a totally different situation.
