She was downright nasty about Bey, too, which...surprised me. Just some petty, passive aggressive commentary about her Kennedy center appearance. I like Babs and I can even sort of get her criticism about the fourth remake being a bit much (although lol at her acting like her version was superior when it was panned)...but the way she worded it was unnecessarily petty as was her criticism about Bey. People are absolutely entitled to their opinions and I don't want to make it sound like I'm calling anyone a "hater" who doesn't like what I like...but some legends absolutely do seem a bit salty at younger, successful performers who are in their "prime" (Grace Jones ripping everyone, but esp. her nastiness towards Rih & Mariah, Madonna and Gaga, etc.)....and others seem to be way more...kind...about it (re: Patti LaBelle, Cher (outside her shade for Madonna), etc.). I honestly don't understand the point of that...like at least I sort of get her saying "the fourth remake is a bit much" even if she's being delulu about how good her version was. Honestly a bit surprised as Barbra's not known to be petty/mean a la Grace Jones, Boy George, Elton, etc. Maybe she was having a bad day, but she just had her passive aggressive claws out for the ladies (well, I kind of read her shade at ASIB as more towards the movie than Gaga in particular, but you get what I mean). Makes me appreciate how Aretha handled being asked about the younger generation even more (well, great gowns quip aside...which wasn't even that mean) before she passed away. I love Bey, Gaga, Rihanna, etc. but I would understand Aretha being a bit annoyed at how interviewers would sometimes frame questions as "x or y remind me of you, etc." because frankly none of the big A listers are at her level (right now, at least, but maybe in 10 years it will be different). I recall some interviewer bugging her about Jennifer Hudson and Beyonce at one point, when she was trying to give an interview about performing for Obama and what the interviewer should have been focusing on instead imo...instead of being catty she just rolled with it and was super gracious. StarstruckIllusion 52,225
Well it’s the writers fault, not Gaga’s.
Bradley 58,593
I'm sorry but even if they both were the same and one was critically and commercially acclaimed and the other received mediocre reviews (the Barbara version) then they are not the same. The premise might be similar but the execution (which Bradley and Gaga wonderfully contributed to) was original and modern.

The writers received an Adapted Screenplay Oscar nomination (and many more). I think Barbara is commenting on the premise but the execution of the 2018 version and her version are clearly different. Bonkers 28,783
Honestly, I think the Italian mob is behind this. Hear me out. Patrizia Reggiani has had a person killed before, and she's probably thirsty to do it again. We all know this crazy b*tch is salty that Gaga made H.O.G without kissing her ring, so obviously she mad. Obviously going after Gaga would be too obvious and she'd get caught again so she had to set her sites on a different target. If my theory is correct she decided to get at Gaga by threatening someone Gaga looks up to and using her to send some shade to our beloved Lady Gaga. She's maniacal and must be stopped, but TBH Gaga should have seen this coming and has unfortunately put Barbra Streisand at risk. NCgaga 4,319
This isn’t a slight at Gaga. She’s just saying she was hoping for a different direction from the version she did.

GagaSine 7,464
I understand what she means, totally. It almost seemed like a 70s period piece if it wasn't for Ally's more contemporary style pop music.

CyanDante 5,970
Leave Babs alone! Barbara loves Gaga and has spoken well about her and ASIB in general. It feels like she is just talking about a switch from her version, so it would be a bit different, but she could have worded it a bit differently. And Gaga's ASIB although it was a remake of the 1976 version, they actually changed it quite a lot imo. None of the other movies dealt so much with the male lead's story. They were mostly about the leading lady. In the 2018 version, it was about Jack and Ally both, their mental health, and coping and repercussions of it. Plus even the music was quite altered to fit the current times. I'm not very good with Social Mediaᵀᴹ
