Who Is The Laziest Pop Star?

Adele is definitely my first thought. Not only does she take 4+ years per album but even after all that time away, routinely comes back with a 10-11 track album, which would make me feel very short-changed after waiting all that time. And she's only ever made 2 videos maximum per album, the rest is just official performances in place of a music video. She doesn't even do many live performances either, even though that's the least she could do. Her music videos are also very uneventful, with her either sitting/standing or walking very slowly at most. She said she was going to dance in the Send My Love To Your New Lover video but this so-called dancing consisted of her standing, swaying slightly from side to side and flicking her hands. Her tours are also very short. With all this taken into account, I don't know what she possibly has to take a break from between albums. She has a child but he is 8 now, so it's not like she needs to be there constantly.

Then there's Christina Aguilera, who's always been famous for her huge breaks between albums, even when she started flopping, she was still taking her time. Her most recent album, released in 2018, was 5.5 years in the making, after the previous album flopped and had no tour so I don't know what went on there. Again, she's got 2 children, but one's a teenager and the other is of school age, so again, it's not like she needs to be there for them 24/7. Though I think she's just resigned to the idea now that she's a niche artist these days.

Jennifer Lopez hasn't released an album since 2014. She's just been releasing stand-alone singles ever since. She's only ever done one tour in her entire life as well. I get that she prefers to focus more on tv and film these days but if she's going to make a habit of releasing music, it just seems weird to not want to form them into a complete album.

Bruno Mars is fast becoming another artist who doesn't seem to care about a frequent release schedule, taking big gaps after his second album. He only came back with an album just over half an hour long last time and hasn't put out anything in the nearly 5 years since. It's not like he releases lots of stand-alone songs in the meantime either. Now he seems devoted to this new Silk Sonic collab instead of doing solo work. With no kids, I really don't know what his other commitments are.

Kate Bush only makes albums once in a blue moon, has only released one album per decade since the 90's, with her last album of original material released in 2011 (and it was a Christmas themed album, at that). She once said it annoys her how long it takes to make her albums but it's just something that needs to be done yet denies being a perfectionist. She's only ever done one tour in her life, which was very short because she hates flying. She claims that her prioritisation of family life is partly what causes the big gaps between albums but considering her only child is 23 now, that shouldn't really be an issue.

And Rihanna from around 2014 to present. Anti took a long time to finally come to fruition and we all know how she's teased ever since but not released a thing in all this time. I'm pretty much of the belief that she's just following the money these days, so if the make up line makes more money than music, that's where she's staying.

That’s what happens when you don’t write any of your music or produce it. I love a lot of Rihanna’s music but she’s definitely not in it for the art she’s in it for the money and imo she’s kinda lazy

doing vocals is hard on it's own
who cares if she's writing it or not
she still spent hours or hours in studio
between learning choreography for music videos
doing live shows for promotion, interviews
and touring

None of them are lazy. Just because you don't see what's going on behind the scenes means they're sitting on their bums eating bon-bons.

He's a self taught musician on three instruments, has taken an incredibly active role in producing his music, works closely with the design and look of his shows, and when he does go up on stage he brings a lot of heart and soul. I've seen him twice and while he may not dance, his shows are energetic. He is constantly moving, he interacts heavily with the crowd, he gets off the stage and runs through the crowd. He puts work in. Working hard for a video, a show, and a record is so much more than choreo.
