Gucci has more buzz than ASIB

Yeah. But buzz doesn't always translate into box office. And a highly anticipated film can really underwhlem. A Star Is Born benefited from everyone thinking it would be a throwaway vanity project. But Gucci is starting off predicted for Best Picture. So, I am nervous. I don't think it will be a real Best Picture contender and likely there will be a major come down when people finally see it. But hopefully Gaga still at least gets the nomination.

Totally agree, HoG has a lot to lose and may very well be the flop of the year. But it could also be Best Picture material too! Gaga has a way of making us eat our words :vegas:

Yup the trailer was a cultural reset :vegas:

On a scale of 1 to Normani's Wild Side, how big of a cultural reset do you think it will be? :vegas:

I loved your statistics and was pretty shocked by how slow ASIB's trailer was performing in the beginning.

I really want this movie to succeed but theatres in many countries are still not open/operating at full capacity which will severely impact the financial success of this film.

Let's hope it does a decent amount of success so it's not too neglected.

Don't get too excited guys... ASIB was her first major role and that attracted lots of coverage, and don't forget a huge part of the movie success was carried by Shallow. So let's see what happens :stalkga:

ASIB was a slow burner and seen as an indie low budget film, the stars both were paid to scale.  I’m not sure Gucci will have the longevity and cultural reset as Star.  Music helped too.

OGH and the media were ready to write ASIB as a flop in Gaga’s “downward” career and it affected us LM’s tbh.

But of course, the opposite happened and her career reached a new peak. :vegas:
HoG has more hype because she’s now an Academy Award Winner and she is in a better place with the media.

It's hard to compare them because 2018 was a different time in cinema, and like you said it was a debut lead role for Gaga and debut directing role for Bradley AND a remake.

There's more buzz for House of Gucci I think because it's based on real people and real events and a novel. I also think everything is very GRAND compared to ASIB, bigger cast, bigger stars Al Pacino, Jared Leto, Salma Hayek, Adam Driver (all INCREDIBLE stars/actors), bigger budget, and bigger director (but we still love you Bradley lol)

But we need to give credit where credit is due and Gaga would have NEVER been cast in this had it not been for the success she had with ASIB. Not that she never had the talent, but Bradley really elevated her career as an actress with ASIB. She was waiting for the right script to come her way after all that success and THIS is the one she chose, and there's more buzz because of all of that.

Also, I don't think it's fair to compare the financial success because it's a completely different time and with Covid and theatres and now STREAMING services like Paramount+, Disney+ etc, financial success of Gucci cannot be compared to ASIB. You can compare the reviews, and impact, Oscar buzz etc, but financials no....
