It’s probably a good thing Gaga didn’t announce a Broadway project. So many things are up in the air because of COVID. It would suck for her to get cast in something only to have to back out of it later.

Good luck to Beanie, though. Looking forward to seeing her in ACS: Impeachment, too!

So while I know Gaga isn't doing it...I can't get over Beanie Fieldstein??? For real??? I know Lea Michele is a terrible person, but she is a far better singer. Anna Kendrick would have been great, too. Anna's also a far better actress, has more Broadway experience, and is a fantastic singer. 

I honestly don't understand it....I suspect it is because she is connected asf through her brother and family (I'm aware she had a small Broadway role before, but she still is a bizarre choice imo).

Then again, Broadway can be weird. I know Sondheim is a legend and all that, but he's snarked on Gaga's Sound of Music tribute  (that everyone else loved, including some Broadway stars) and I believe he's trash talked Beyonce and a few other big pop girls with major vocals. Which, okay, he doesn't have to like them...but it's bizarre because he LOVES people who are objectively worse singers than Bey and Gaga (Meryl, for one). Although in Gaga's case I think he was snarking on her style of singing more so than the power of her vocals, but again Gag's style (even if it's too theatrical) is still light years ahead of Meryl, Chris Pine, etc.

She has such a big life. She's a legend in the music world and an Academy Award nominated actress with a highly anticipated new movie. I think that concerts, her next album, and movies would have far more appeal to her creative soul.

Concerts, her next album and movies is what would have far more appeal to you. She's proven how serious she is about being an actress, and Broadway is the natural next step for her. Not every actor can do theatre, so if she is successful in it, she'll gain even more respect. Theatre is not to be frowned upon, and I wouldn't be surprised to see her make the transition at some point.

Sadly it's all but confirmed that Gaga is not doing this revival. It's a transfer of Michael Mayer's London production that Sheridan Smith starred in. (Sadly, Sheridan is not doing the Broadway production either).

Casting is due to be announced at any time but those holding hope for Gaga, don't keep those hopes up.  

is it really? then in that case I'm really glad Gaga is nor doing it because I really did not like that production. Honestly, Funny Girl back on Broadway is a Hello Dolly type of event, and that production was so underwhelming to me

Yeah, it was just announced, it's Beanie Feldstein. @MessyTop posted the news above.

I also agree that the revival with Sheridan was a bore.

Same director but it will not be the same staging. They explicitly said that in the press releases today- I think for the exact reason you mentioned lol

we'll see...I watched the recording of the production recently and judging from who is cast as Nick, I'll be shocked if it's not *exactly* the same.

The creative team is mostly new, so at least visually speaking, it will not be the same. This would be billed as a transfer (like Company) if it truly was. For a director to helm two separate productions, this close together is really rare, and also interesting to see. The biggest problem here though is the source material. If they can fix the book then it will fare better. Plus Thoroughly Modern Millie turned out really well for Mayer and is in the same vein comedy wise.

I knew it was Beanie because I had been following the boards at BroadwayWorld for a couple of days, I was just wondering about the production!

But yeah, everyone praised Sheridan and made such a big deal when she left the show but honestly she just was not doing it for me

The book really surprised me too, being updated by Harvey Fierstein and all I hoped for something much better. Hopefully he rewrote his rewrite
