It’s far from a mild cold, my mum has it and now I have it  it’s not fun at all. 

I was waiting for the vaccination I heard about months ago that was meant to be coming out next month, and was meant to be more effective, but I can’t find anything about it and no one seems to know anything about it  so I was looking into getting Pfizer for yesterday until my mum tested positive Thursday morning  mistakes were made

I’ve been looking very closely at the growth of COVID-19, and it doesn’t look pretty. However, I am seeing that increased vaccination rates exponentially decrease the number of new cases a given state has. Two data points from earlier this week:

• Massachusetts has about 28% unvaccinated, and 9.5 new cases per 100,000 population per day

• Florida has about 44% unvaccinated, and 75 cases per 100k population/day

I know there was a recent study which didn’t see a difference in viral load with the Delta variant between vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals, however:

• Viral load does not always means ability to transmit to others.

• Vaccinated people may be less likely to get COVID-19 at all, or carry a viral load for a shorter period of time.

As the linked article points out, the notion that vaccination doesn’t reduce one’s ability to spread COVID-19 Delta variant “is early exploratory analysis and further targeted studies are needed to confirm whether this is the case”; the number of new cases vs. vaccination rates I’m seeing just doesn’t line up with the theory that vaccination doesn’t reduce COVID-19 spread.

I read that too but theres an important detail there. State has one of the highest vaccinatiom rates in the US so even with vaccines reducing chances of symptomatic infection significantly, many of the cases will be among vaccinated if there arent many unvaccinated left to begin with

 

This is where we have to be careful with statistics and what conclusions we draw from headline title. The devil is always in the details

Besides there always being other variables outside vaccination like population desity, natural immunity, social behaviours etc... even if vaccines was purely the only factor at play for different numbers it only proves the vaccine is doing what its suppostu which is to reduce severe illness and best case scenario make any infections completely asymptomatic it doesnt totally prove what the spread rate is or isnt

 

If vaxed ppl were hypathetically able to transmit it just as easily... u would still get a lower official reported number in higher vaccinated areas because it would mean a lot more mild or asymptomatic infections which are much more likely to be missed and therefore not counted in the official numbers

 

So its hard to tell from these numbers alone as far as spreading goes

It literally reduces the risk of catching it lmao? And if people are idiots and don't know how to use masks doesn't mean masks are not effective... I literally know 0 people around me who wear the same mask for ages without washing them and most of them use disposable ones anyway.

Well than explain to me why in countries like China or South-Korea where people have been wearing masks since long before COVID and it still roams around there, masks are not some magical shield that keeps you from getting it.

Which is why I literally said they REDUCE the chance of getting it, not completely stop you from catching it. Things would have been a LOT worse without masks. That should be clear 2 years into the pandemic ffs.
