I know I sound like a broken record but I will never understand why critics from her own homestate hate her so much.

Anyway, the fact that New York seems to hate this movie but the Los Angeles crowd is eating it up lines up with what I heard from a couple people on Awards Watch and GoldDerby the last few weeks.

New Yorkers are stuck up and take themselves too seriously tbh. LA is more chill. I’ve felt that personally as well.

LA understands camp more than NY. Go figure.

New Yorkers don't have a sense of humor. If they see a movie that's funny, they get embarrassed that someone was smarter or more clever than them. (I say this as a New Yorker for over 15 years btw)

Genuine Guy 09

Although it doesn’t feel good, I predicted for days now MC 58-62 and RT 60-64 (with OW 16.2m - 18.4m) so it’s falling almost exactly in line with that. I just wish it can go green and stay fresh… not confident but fingers crossed. Also not confident that the BO will hold with these reactions ‘too long’ ‘boring’ … let’s just hope the people who mattered loved her performance and her campaign is strong

Yeah. I said on Twitter the night the social reactions were released that this felt like the VICE of the awards season (65 on RT; 60 on MC).

Weirdly enough, it's also getting the same kind of reviews that JOKER got, so maybe the box office will be good for GUCCI, too? Lol.

Just A Holy Fool

Rotten Tomatoes has posted its "Critic's Consensus"

House of Gucci vacillates between inspired camp and dour drama too often to pull off a confident runway strut, but Lady Gaga's note-perfect performance has a timeless style all its own

We won :bradley:

Ridley though.... :awkney:

ok. I just saw the movie. After a spasmodic wait, I've been able to see the Gucci case made in the big screen, I consider myself a sort of an expert since when it happened I was about 12 years old and I immediately became very passionate with the case and the whole Gucci family. I don't want to spoil anything and will try hard to keep it as short as possible. There are several things that have been omitted by Ridley Scott but I realize they were choices dictated by movie times. The film is thrilling and exciting in the first part, it is possible to feel, thanks to the masterful interpretation of Lady Gaga and Adam Driver, the love that the two felt at the beginning of their relationship and how much Maurizio would have liked to live a normal life with Patrizia, far from the Gucci empire, he was not really interested in family business or business in general, Maurizio was a very simple person .. when he was a student. As for the performances of the actors: Lady Gaga is brilliant, I have thoroughly studied the psychology of Patrizia Reggiani but I have never felt empathy towards her. Now I feel empathy thanks to an extraordinary Lady Gaga. Applause. She will have a dazzling career, she has been phenomenal. Al Pacino is very good but more deficient in the first part, exceptional in the second .. and I repeat exceptional. Jeremy Irons is incredible .. he embodies the essence of Roldolfo Gucci and of the Italian fashion that still lives today and owes a great legacy to him. Jared Leto, good but sometimes over the top. Paolo Gucci was not exactly like that in real life .. I don't know what kind of research Jared did but he gave a not exactly correct image of Paolo. Adam Driver was just plain perfect .. beyond my expectations and I guarantee that the chemistry with Gaga is really, really great and fun at the beginning. Salma Hayek did a good job, but they reduced her character as a secondary, when in reality Pina Auriemma was way more present in Patrizia's life, everyday life. The famous sex scene between Maurizio and Patrizia is very, very funny and bizarre .. the chemistry between the two is extraordinary. The end is what still resembles in Milan even today.. and Lady Gaga is simply extraordinary .. She is a great actress. Go see the film, support these great actors and the great work behind this film. No, it's not a masterpiece, but it tells the story of the biggest Italian brand in the world.. it did it justice.. and it tells the story of a heartbreak woman. We laugh, we cry, sometimes we get bored but it is a film to be seen at all costs. Trust me

Thank you for your review. Really loved your take!

The fact that the consensus singles out Gaga because even the negative reviews are praising her. Maybe we won after all.

Sorry, but I have to add-

NY is more intellectually elite; and it comes off very pretentious sometimes.

A step away from the reviews, BO will be important to hold up the film. Deadline reports:

“House of Gucci which is booked at 3,477 domestic theaters, eyeing a mid-to-high teen opening over five days. Previews in the U.S./Canada start tonight at 7PM. House of Gucci is opening in 45 overseas markets […] Expectations are around $10M to start at the international box office.”

so tracking for a 25million opening is still expected (in spite of the medium reviews)

it really needs to do at least 10mill in NA. Remember Bo Rhapsody was a critical flop but a massive massive BO juggernaut which eased concerns for the voting members…Gucci wont be anywhere near that but we need good numbers to make up for the critical performance

Ridley is fine I’m sure, if the movie ends with a 60% is won’t be his best scored movie, but not the worst either. Now let’s wait and see how it’ll perform at the box office.

but Gaga taking an amount of praise worth a mention in RT critic consensus (in an ensemble cast!) is an achievement that will stick there for everybody to see in the years to come (putting an end to the russian accent nonsense once and for all).

Okay, I think a 65% is fairly safe... it would take a lot of really negative reviews to bring it down below that now...
