down to 68% on RT but the Gaga praise is incredible.. She's been constantly praised even more than for her ASIB performance. Proud of her and hoping for at least 12M at this weekend box office.

Some of you need to STOP harassing these reviewers. Especially since most of them SAID GAGA'S GREAT IN THE MOVIE. They are criticizing the movie itself, which is really some fair points, and that does NOT equal to hating Gaga. :bradley:

This. Even the worst criticisms save Lady Gaga's performance, defined it as phenomenal.

Judging by how HoG's score is in a freefall on LB you're probably right. Most users of that platform are Film Twitter orientated and don't like Gaga. But LMs aren't countering it.

The movie isn't even out yet. Are we supposed to invent reviews?

Depends where you're from.

If you're outside US then maybe.

However, lots of people in USA have seen it cos we have public early screening last week. There are even a thread about it posted in this site that shows cinemas in all states that have the screening available.

The reviews for HOG are obviously mixed but with much praise for Gaga. (Owen Gleiberman's review in Variety is a flat out rave. An important review from a respected critic.)
Looking forward to box office, RT verified audience score and Cinemascore.
And Gaga is definitely in the awards conversation. Another best actress nomination would be incredible! The actors who vote the acting nominations have their own perspective - AMPAS members go their own way.

HoG getting panned could hurt her chances but I agree that she still on the conversation, now let's see if she decides plays the Hollywood game and work for that BA nom, is what she deserves.

She's not working for a nom - haters can stay in denial to their hearts' content but a nom has never been in doubt. She definitely needs to play the game like her life depends on it if she wants to win which, yes, is a very much in the cards as long as the movie performs as well at the box office as it's expected to.

Not The Real Gaga

The average critic score on RT is 6 / 10 (5.9 / 10 if you only count the top critics).

But it is not "panned". Panned would be 25% on RT or something.

Jennifer Hudson's Respect - 67% on RT

Jessica Chastain's The Eyes of Tammy Faye - 66% on RT

These movies are also in no way the giant blockbuster that House of Gucci is.

I wouldn’t be too confident just yet. This year’s best actress race is very competitive. A nomination for Gaga alone would be a HUGE achievement in itself.

Kristen Stewart is a 100% lock which means it’s down to Chastain, Kidman, Colman, McDormand (if she’s lead)  and pretty much all of these performances have been praised. Even though Gaga’s been getting great reviews about her performance, the only thing stopping her from getting a nomination atm is the quality of the film overall which the other contenders don’t face as much.

It‘s still early to call and hopefully the audience score can balance the mixed/negative views out but we’ll have to wait and see.

you can serve it to me ancient city style...

Also I am 98% certain the audience score will be higher than the critics' score. This looks like it was made for mainstream audience rather than arthouse cinephiles.

Not true. They all suffer from "okay" scripts. Only Kristen Stewart has that advantage.

But Bradley Cooper who had like a 95% score lost to Rami Malek whose movie is like at 50+%.

Future Lovers

As many have said, there is very little criticism toward Gaga. She’s getting lauded, even if it seems the film around her is not up to par. The criticism of the film itself is very valid, from what I understand. I haven’t seen it yet, and I’m not going to let critical reception stop me.

That being said…what will hurt this film more than critics is if the audiences that see it opening weekend don’t take kindly to the sort of film it seems to be. Almost every review, even the positive ones, have said that the film is not the campy over the top romp that the trailers promise but is instead played quite seriously for the most part. Most casual audiences I think are going in expecting a certain kind of movie, but we’ll have to wait and see if they are going to be okay with getting a different one all together.
