I understand the intention and they failed. If you want bad spray tan, you do orange. This is not cool and I don't know why people are defending it. Using a darker skin tone as a punchline is the issue.

This is NOT blackface at all. I can see they were going for a telenovela cheesy male tanned character as she described it herself. I think the emoji comment was supposed to point out the darkened skin, purple outfit and even the position of hands were similar

Spray Tanning and Tanning have been a thing for a long ass time. No, it isn’t always going to be orange. My Hispanic family spray tanned, and sometimes they were orange, sometimes they were dark like the Friends picture. 
 

Anyone care to think that perhaps the lighting really ruined the look? In the one where he is standing in brighter light, it looks a bit more like what they were going for. 
 

People will always see what they want to see. 
 

I think there would be a case if there wasn’t a mixture of cultures on stage behind her.

Yeah good idea. "Let's just exaggerate this tan so it looks like blackface...even though it isn't...it just looks very much like blackface...even though it isn't". If this thing appears to be blackface that's enough for it to be blackface. I don't understand why you're nitpicking when it comes to this. I would try to get rid of every little thing related to our very problematic past in order to create a more inclusive society, but no no, let's just say this is a "very exaggerated tan". Blackface? Even if that was the case, which it isn't, Camila's "apology" is still ignorant. She should've apologized for it looking like blackface and explained why that wasn't the intention. She instead chose to dig deeper into her grave for some reason.

But if you understand the intention (and I'm sure most people do) what is the issue? "Darker skin tone" is not the punchline - the punchline is he made the common mistakes of choosing an extremely wrong shade and missing patches around his eyes (which was trendy in the 80s to make it look like you'd been on a skiing holiday).

Thanks. I’m not a Camila stan and I agree her team should have known better and that would generate some drama but you guys are hating it for no reason. That was not blackface.
