China rejects WHO plan for second phase of virus origin probe

China rejected on Thursday a World Health Organization (WHO) plan for a second phase of an investigation into the origin of the coronavirus, which includes the hypothesis it could have escaped from a Chinese laboratory

WHO head Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called on China to be more co-operative about the early stages of the outbreak, including with audits of laboratories and markets in the city of Wuhan.

Zeng Yixin, deputy health minister, said it showed "disrespect for common sense and arrogance towards science".
Zeng said he was taken aback when he first read the WHO plan because it lists the hypothesis that a Chinese violation of laboratory protocols had caused the virus to leak during research.

He said the plan was politicised and that China could not accept it.

Disrespect for common sense and arrogance towards science when they are literally looking for a source of the virus in its country of origin, it's the most scientific thing to do! Where else would they look then?  Also, how come they can't cooperate, seems to be a straightforward request. China remains to be sus

Seriously guys, if you dont consider the high possibility that the virus originated from the Wuhan lab which is KNOWN to be one of three labs in the entire world to breed new types coronaviruses, I don't know what else could possibly make you question the market theory. 

The US sent over the guy who funds the lab to do a virus origin probe and the CDC said that wasn't enough, basically saying "we are not buying the bs that the lab is fine, send somebody unbiased". China keep rejecting and they were literally threatening Australia with a trade war when they asked for a virus origin probe. I do not believe it came from the market, I believe this was a slip up.

If they are 100% certain that the virus did not leak from the Wuhan Lab, then they really shouldn’t have an issue with the lab / wet markets being swept (& the latter becoming more regulated & safer as a result).
