Every big social media platform these days tries to undermine the competition by copying all their features. And in the end they all start to look the same, lose the unique qualities that made them interesting in the first place, and become cluttered and messy to use. The first time I noticed this happening is when Facebook tried to buy Snapchat and Snapchat refused. But Facebook had just bought Instagram, and so in retaliation they instead copied everything that Snapchat was to create stories. If you can't buy 'em, copy everything that have to spite 'em, I guess... The worst part is that it worked and Snapchat tanked after that for a long time and barely survived. Now look at Instagram, they made stories to undercut Snapchat, added a shopping tab because money, have more ads than ever before, the algorithm is brutal, and most recently they created reels to undercut TikTok. Facebook these days now has businesses, marketplace, stories, messenger, they stopped people embedding videos from any sites than their own, SO many ads, SO many push notifications.
