Taylor Swift, Jack Antonoff and St. Vincent have been given co-writer credits on Olivia Rodrigo's song "Deja Vu" after Olivia Rodrigo spoke about how influential Tay's "Cruel Summer" bridge was on the song.

The songwriters have been added to the track’s Spotify and TIDAL metadata, with credit going to them over the song’s bridge.

This is the second Sour track to feature a Swift-Antonoff interpolation and writing credit, with “1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back,” borrowing from the Reputation ballad “New Year’s Day.”

I defend Taylor a lot, but if she requested this, it's a major overreach and abuse of her relationship with Olivia (she knows she's a super fan). The bridges are not in any way identical. This just feels like stealing a cut of a big hit.

How do you know Taylor requested this? It is not said or even remotely talked about that in both of the articles linked. Also, Olivia has said that Deja Vu was born as a cover of Cruel Summer and that the chorus is practically the same chorus on both. Maybe this is just Olivia giving credit where its due, maybe she could not give credit to Taylor until now, not everything has to be a problem or a bad thing.

I highly doubt it since they’ve formed a kind of friendship over the months.

The article I read described it as being "handled behind the scenes" and compared it to similar situations like Katy's "Dark Horse" and Sam's "Stay with Me" where retroactive credit was given. If Olivia thought it was a deserved co-writer credit, she no doubt would have done so before releasing the album. Situations like this are almost always initiated by a songwriter requesting credit. And I assume Olivia acquiesced.

That's my point. If your idol was being friendly to you, wouldn't you want them to stay that way? And therefore be put in a very difficult place if they made a request for publishing to your song?

Oh wow ms oblivia is so generous because it’s obvious she was inspired by cruel summer but inspiration does not mean plagiarism tho

I doubt this was done because Taylor requested it, and more-so from loyalty that Olivia feels toward Taylor.
