Is there really harm in someone 'unqualified' being the figurehead if they can be trusted to depend one evidence and information from a qualified cabinet?

The problem with that argument is that this is how the establishment is created in the first place. This is how we end up with 20-30year career politicians running on nothing with their only argument being that the opponent is not qualified enough and the status quo is fine.

And thus we end up with politicians straying further away from what the people want and this is how we got into the situation of the average age of politicians being well above the average age of the population in many places.

 

This is simply about them running, which would be groundbreaking, to have a non-binary trans person on the ballot for such a high office. Their agenda and their qualifications should become an issue once they actually run.

I was thinking the same thing as Living but you make a fair point. We need young people in politics if we want to see positive change.

I do get that mindset, since I used to think that way as well.

But even if you think in a more basic psychological way, as we age we tend to take fewer risks. And progress means thinking about and doing things unknown. It means maybe making mistakes, but always with benefits for the (unknown) future in mind.

Also the argument of qualifications made and makes it so hard for women to get elected. And even harder for minorities in general. Because few hold offices and if we use qualifications and professional experience as the main factor these people basically never stand a chance.
