makes sense to me now ( I just had trouble with the wording - but it's like that in songs so it sounds better and is "singable")

idk why but I always read it as a commentary on female gender roles and how Gaga personally navigates it as a woman with a chronic illness. A ‘steady hand’ is a traditionally ideal trait for a woman to have (for sewing, house making work etc.) but Gaga’s fibromyalgia physically inhibits that.

Basically: I am still of worth even if/when I am physically incapable of doing things that are traditionally expected of me as a woman.

Yeah I guess that is what it's supposed to be.. I think the wording is not making sense technically because:

I'm not nothing (I'm something) unless I know I can = if I know I can then I'm nothing

But I guess we can ignore that

I don't know why, but I thought it was eluding to alcoholism   do people refer to someone breaking their alcoholism by having a 'steady hand'? I have no idea why my brain made that connection
