The Boy Scouts of America have reached an $850 million agreement with attorneys representing some 60,000 victims of child sex abuse in what could prove to be a pivotal moment in the organization’s bankruptcy case.

The settlement would mark one of the largest sums in U.S. history involving cases of sexual abuse.

In terms of reported numbers, it dwarves similar complaints made against the Catholic Church in the country.

The Boy Scouts of America, based in Irving, Texas, sought bankruptcy protection in February 2020, moving to halt hundreds of lawsuits and create a compensation fund for men who were molested as youngsters decades ago by scoutmasters or other leaders.

The settlement needs to be approved by a judge, but may face opposition from insurers who would have to pay out millions of dollars.

The $850M probably includes attorney fees too and w James Franco's case they got like 40% of the settlement :saladga:

Were they mostly homosexual cases? Just curious :oprah:

that’s what i’m wondering, too. when i was in boy scouts, all of my main leaders were women and I only had one male in my last year. i wondering what the ratio is across the country.
