That was (ans still is?) a period in which it was almost impossible to have an album out without a featuring, and since it was the most anticipated album of the year, I was surprised to see there were none in BTW (actually, Gaga pointed it out in interviews as it was some sort of "Badge of Honor", like "There are no feat. in my album!")

I think she had to fight A LOT not to have some Pitbull or Niki Minaj babbling on her record. 

Probably Big freedia was proposed by Gaga herself as the next best thing, but her previous management did not like the idea so Gaga said "Nobody will feature in my album then", who knows.

Telephone was her last single with a feature and that was Beyonce, I highly doubt they wanted a not-as-famous artist for the upcoming lead. Maybe she was planning a remix or there was a second version of the song since there was also a second video in the making…

As far I understand, Gaga doesn't consider a feature unless it feels nesessary. I think Big Freddia is fibbing a little about being considered for the intial Born This Way project. Maybe for paid promo via covers n such, but for actual album feature I doubt it. Otherwise she would have had RuPaul as a feature on ARTPOP's Fashion! Honestly, the You + I cover is the best one on Reimagined. And Judas is the worst.  Love Big Freesia, but come on. No.

It’s really not that unlikely considering what the song is about and Big Freedia’s career. Pretty self explanatory why they would want her over other popular artists. Also BTW is my absolute favorite album by Gaga, but I think it if it were released for the first time in 2021, she would definitely have some LGBTQ+ or BIPOC features on the album considering the subject matter.
