I honestly believe no one but his fans care about this song. No one talks about this man. He gets no hype on social media or YouTube. All of this excitement is forced.  Not surprised. It’s generic and very safe for radio. I’m not hating on Ed, I think he does what he does very well and it shows from his popularity but apart from the video itself I didn’t care for the song. It’s funny how Elton John, his mentor, told Gaga she was wasting her talent on generic pop and didn’t like ARTPOP but Ed SHEERAN is the actually generic pop and he gives him his seal or approval...

Honestly the only way to secure a #1 and keep it there is payola. Sucks interscope never really uses that method because RoM/TC/MR/PI/Applause could’ve been bigger with payola and playlists.

I think it lowkey stems from a bit of "jealousy by proxy". They're so freaking successful while writing such generic (not necessarily bad) stuff while a lot of people's favorite artists here are paid dust despite reinventing themselves constantly. Gaga included barring ASIB and Chromatica.
