Thoughts on Born This Way Reimagined

Gagas lil monster

Born This Way is my favorite album of all time. So of course I was expecting something really fierce for the 10th anniversary album. I was disappointed to find out that it was just the standard version re-released with only a few tracks reimagined... I was expecting the entire album to be reimagined by other artists?? I must've gotten confused or something? Lol. I just think it was a money grab/merch thing. 💔

Well it feels underwhelming & there wasn't a strong buzz for a giant 10 year anniversary milestone...it started off REALLY ROUGH with that horrible judas cover so I think a lot of buzz and hype from the GP left after that if there was any... :smh:

The album also didn't offer anything new visually with all the bts footage that leaked...im sure they had plenty of archive photos they could have used to make it feel more special and unique but they did the bare ass minimum and just chucked out some overpriced cheap merch... :awkney:

All of this going on while Chromatica's 1 year anniversary was not even mentioned by Gaga, her label, or her team...like it's her newest album and it was paid dust and BARELY has been out a year or gotten any promo... :saladga:

If it were me...I would have made...

Well BTW Country Road version we already had so we didn't need the new one

Judas is all over the place

MTN, You and I, and Edge of Glory are all good

Highway Unicorn was good but forgettable imo

I feel like an alternate cover, 2021 remixes, unreleased tracks, documentary on the making of the album, documentary of the tour, unreleased videos, or idk....something else would've landed better with the fans. It just felt very half assed to me imo of someone who used to speak at Pride rallys and the White House.

I'm a huge Gaga fan but after BTW, she really has lacked content for the fans. We want long, interesting music videos again. Among other things :poot:

Omg we can dream

Right like why wasn't the album remastered for streaming? That would be bare minimum before reimagined tracks imo

Exactly...and for a TRUE fan dream...would a new unreleased BTW song attached to the album not help streams AND sales?

Such a wasted opportunity

I really did not care for it :rip:

BUT BUT BUT I think there’s something to be said for the fact that she gave those artists such a big platform to promote their voices. I had no idea who half of those people were before album release

It just goes to show that maybe they were obscure for a reason :oprah:

Mindblown

The fact the album doesn't show up when I search "Born This Way" in Apple Music. When you somehow find it, it's not even in Dolby Atmos. That's all I have to say on this. :selena:

Cavadour

I've been born recently (AHS Hotel, then Joanne) to Gaga's genius. Compared to what most of you monsters have lived from your teenage run to now. I can only relate with what I lived with my teenage heroes : Hendrix, the Doors, Led Zep, Deep Purple, CCR... What a jolt that was.

Having such a musical icon, activist and so powerful reimagining artist getting along your most tender, rebel and id-seeking years must have been indescribable and it still is now, all that with the support of the wonderful BTW album ten years ago.

But to me (just my thought here, will all due respect, guys) when I first came to BTW, it was like a backcatalog album of an artist I just discovered. When Joanne unleashed on me, it's year long spins - no skip, no other - in my car stereo, I had also previous LG albums on random and besides some songs I instantly merged with (Electric Chapel, You and I, The Edge of Glory) I was mostly skipping BTW tracks to go back to the Joanne tracklist.

My point here is, this 10th Anniversary extra album presents versions of these songs I listen with fresh ears and surprisingly (just today with Higway Unicorn) after listening to the Highwomen version, I felt the urge to go back to Gaga original and when her powerful vocals unleashed I finally could make a deep contact with that song. I know from now on, this song - the original - will not be skipped again for the days to come.

Reading the thread gave my the impression of getting a lot of meh and requests for what I consider as the usual cashcow attitude in old albums reruns : unreleased stuff to just rub old fans the right way... I find this 10th Anniversary BTW concept inventive, bold, smart and almost completely never done before. A way to incite today's people to turn their gaze over the original BTW with a fresh look. This way to draw attention to Gaga's original work, pushing the envelope with new interpretations of todays artists is aimed at the future more than the past. In this regard, I feel sorry for the old fans and I empathize with the deception.

But think it over. It's like a new chance for the older and younger ignorants and curious, to open their eyes to the grandeur of our queen. Fact is, this companion reimagined BTW album is a rejuvenator of the original one.

Re-Born This Way all the way !

Some of it was cute but it was kinda unnecessary. A couple tracks would have been amazing (since she recorded a lot of tracks) and alternate versions of some of the old tracks. Hell I’d take her own reworking a of some tracks like:

1. Hair acoustic

2. Americano mariachi

3. Living on the radio

4. Stuck on F***in You

5. another unreleased

6. another unreleased

7. Bad Kids extended

8. The Edge of Glory acoustic

9. Born This Way acoustic

And obviously all the reimagined tracks. Would’ve made the whole thing feel like a more grand experience.

For me, it's a commemoration project that Gaga can afford to at this time. I feel that she has been multitasking behind the scenes. I think about her interview with Dr. King,  she definitely researched, and prepared for her well-thought answers. Or her making sure that Tony's probably last album is soo good, and ofcourse taking the time with him . I think she's been working hard now on reviving Chromatica with the remixes, tour planning and others. And you know, Gucci, probably the film crew is still asking her for some stuff like pictorials or voice overs or such. Then there's the Top Gun rumored song. Then Haus Labs business, i think meetings or such stuff. And lastly, i think she really wanted to reward herself some rest, quality me time, a pat on the back for doing a great job with Gucci.

Im not saying that all these are true/confirmed, im just stating that if im on her shoes, i would do what i can do given the circumstances and my mental/physical health. Our expectations are high coz its Gaga but we get what we get, and im just happy that there's something great going on with her as a public figure atleast once a month.

This reimagine project is not that good for me too, it feels rushed and for me unnecessary. I feel like a BTW foundation new project would be better. BUT im happy that the featured cover artists that she invited agreed to be part of it bec they believe in its message and Gaga.:golfclap:

Sorry long post :giggle:
