Meryl was never dragged enough for her friendship with Weinstein, calling him "her god" in an acceptance speech Well I mean, she never had that experience so of bc course she’s gonna speak good when she didn’t know anything about the controversies since they weren’t out yet. im pretty sure a lot of business friends of Epstein thought he was a stand up guy until all the things came out. I mean just like Roman Polanski, like it or not, Weinstein did do some amazing and groundbreaking things for the film industry. He may be a disgusting prick who ruined many women’s lives, but before the allegations were made public, he definitely deserved the praise

She's just using Meryl as an example. There are other actresses as good as Meryl but Hollywood only has room for one great actress over a certain age. I think the same can be said of Cate Blanchett. Kate Winslet is every bit as talent as Blanchett but Blanchett get all the big roles for someone in that age group. There is also actresses like Sharon Stone or Michelle Pfeiffer that have fallen at that age group where Hollywood only wants to hire Meryl Streep for those roles. VoidTwo 259
I voted for "Meryl is deservedly celebrated" because I think she is a really amazing actress she truly deserves her fame, but I understand her point that Hollywood is **** and doesn't celebrate equally talented women. It has always happened there ever since day one (pop a 911) and there is very little we can do about that unless producers change. (please people, understand that she is speaking about the industry and don't turn this into a feud because it isn't, you little drama lovers)
Butters Stotch 5,364
I honestly cannot stand people who need to put others down to make a statement. Like maybe she is right, but she didn't need to drag Meryl, she just needed to talk about what Hollywood does to other great actresses. She made it sound like it's Meryl's fault, and it also takes credibility away from her words. FIND YOUR FREEDOM IN THE MUSIC
Glamourpuss 29,062
I do think Sharon made some points even if she does come across as bitter. Sometimes I think Meryl is overrated too. But I'm thinking about the greatest male actors such as Daniel Day Lewis and I think who is the female equivalent and it probably has to be Meryl. And I also think Olivia Colman could now be in the same league as her. But Meryl is the one who paved the way for women to have meatier roles. Meryl isn't a classic beauty so she made a name for herself as an actress who didn't rely on sex appeal. If Sharon didn't have her sex appeal and her famous role in Basic Instinct she would have had to try harder to get noticed because there were many other hot blondes competing with her. Meryl was unique.
Levine 23,562
Always the same **** with the poor Meryl, why no one uses a male actor for this exemple and always a woman? And no, 90% of the women she listed isn't better than Meryl, nope.

spector 1,918
meryl is, and should be, untouchable, in terms of legacy and acting genius, and that is okay, that’s all. p.s. she’s also a very funny and kind person, me thinks. stella + elliot = stelliot

Everyone acts like there can only be one matriarchal female actress icon and that that has to be meryl. It wouldn’t make sense to mention a male actor in this case as it doesn’t illustrate the point. Unlike her peers, she did not care about looking good on pictures and would in fact make herself look repulsive in order to be as real as possible and take on roles her peers would not dare! Shook people with her debut role to the point there was a huge scandal when she did not get an Oscar nomination. She actually even told Meryl "you remind me of my younger self". Meryl has avoided typecasting from the beginning of her career by proving that she can almost do anything, and that's why she lasted so long in my opinion! KeepOnSwimming 847
Did she watch 'the devil wears Prada'? Cause Meryl Streep is great as the 'villain' I don't get, why she had to make this bitter sounding statement. Like, get your ass up, audition for the roles you want and try your best to get them. It's not like only Meryl gets casted for great roles. And let's be honest, she is an amazing actor. I, personally don't see Sharon and Meryl in the same league of actresses. Sharon is great, but would I compare her to Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, Frances Mc Dormand or Bette Davis? No, I wouldn't. Not saying she's not good, but it's like comparing Katy Perry to Luciano Pavarotti. I do get what she's saying, but I mean, it's her responsibility to get the roles she wants, and if she wants to be as iconic as Meryl, she should go and get to find as many diverse roles and characers to play, as Meryl did, in all her career.
