U know i feel like. Like its my opinion that u dont even need to come out. If u want to go ahead. Nothing wrong with it. But coming out is made such a big deal. Not everyone is comfortable with it. Its a whole mess

To me...I feel it gives the impression you OWE people an explanation when you don't. Straight people don't come out to their parents but LGBT people do because it's "not the norm" and it's surrounded by fear, shame, and secrecy...this doesn't bridge the gap of inclusion...it widens it. The day coming out is no longer a thing...we will have accomplished true inclusion and singularity

P.S. I get that it's important to show the reality of what a lot of gay people go through, but I'm really sick of higher budget gay movies/TV shows absolutely torturing their gay characters.

Like yes, our existence can really suck, but it would also be nice to see us portrayed as just regular people for once. And probably healthier tbh for young gays to see themselves on screen as regular people instead of bullied, degraded, depressed, or dead

Damn, the article is not available in my country, I will try to look for it elsewhere! Thanks for the short summary though. I am beyond disgusted.

'Wahlberg was not tried and convicted for this 1986 attack. Instead, a Boston judge issued a civil rights injunction against him and his friends; as the AP put it, “essentially a stern warning that if they committed another hate crime, they would be sent to jail.” '

I think I can count on one hand the number of mainstream gay characters that were written to be just regular people who happened to be gay. They didn't make being gay the center-point of their life or their personality. Most mainstream gay characters are the same characters from other shows just copied into their show.

I knew this from a long while ago and found it weird nobody else was mentioning it so thank you, it's frustrating when people act purposefully blind and very defensive of individuals like this. There are people who defend him while being fully aware of his extremely dangerous racist past but using the "lol he was young, he knows better now!" excuse that just really really doesn't work with these acts of violence. It's one thing to say dumb edgy comments on Twitter and other websites that people will call you out on over time and you can surely grow out of that mindset over the years but, really? excusing racial violence? :saladga: Physical violence? Nah, straight white men get forgiven for this waaay too often and WAY too easily, especially if they are famous and wealthy. Mark Wahlberg simply got away with those hate crimes and now has online shields.
