The snail was discovered in an amber mine in Myanmar. However, what makes this special is that the snail was captured while giving birth, with five offsprings also trapped in it. According to researchers, it showcases the earliest known fossilized incidents of birth in snails.

Together with colleagues from China and Germany, Jochum examined the amber using high-resolution photography and micro-computer tomography images and was able to reveal the snail shell, which is about 11 millimeters high, and the "marshmallow-like" body of the mother as well as the five newly-born young.

"The snails were apparently encased in the tree resin immediately after birth and preserved in that position over millions of years," adds Jochum.

High-resolution photographs and CT scans helped the team to find that the mother was a newly discovered species of cyclopoid that they named Cretatortulosa gignens -- the latin for ‘giving birth’. The shell was small -- around just half an inch in size.

99 million years? What is life at this point? Our life span is what... 80 years? And I'm supposed to just slave my life away to the capitalistic regime? Hell naw!

I didn't even know the snails "give birth." I thought they laid eggs.:bear:
