Instead it says the other 87M it will donate indirectly by paying for them with funding and poor Countries will get them when they become available
Economy 52,844
How generous @GagaSine @LaLa @JustinTrudeau @chromatic puzea @OBEY When did we get so stingy. I find this kinda insulting... take our 13M surplus we dont need right now and heres some money to pay for the rest when they finally become available at a later time

Tbh I just been surprised at how much Canada has hoarded for itself in contracts and how stingy its been with helping We even took doses from Covax early which barely any other rich Nation did and then for a while didnt wanna donate any back The Americans by comparison have been WAY more generous

I find this kinda insulting... take our 13M surplus we dont need right now and heres some money to pay for the rest when they finally become available at a later time Well, not really. Donating 100 million vaccines is substantial. Since we don't manufacture the vaccines here in Canada paying for them is basically the same thing. But wait - there's more! Canada really isn't "hoarding" vaccines. we're number one for first doses, but we've only administered 77 does per 100 people. Compare that to: USA - 92.5 per 100 (and they have more vaccines than demand) - UK 105 per 100 - Germany 72 per 100- France 65 per hundred - Israel 123 per hundred) ....we're either behind or not that far ahead of most countries in the western world. And, when you consider we've only received 30 million doses -even if we gave away 20% - that's only 6 million doses - it wouldn't be a substantial jump to divide that across even a few countries. 100 million doses is about half a billion dollars from a country that only has 37 million people. USA's population is over 9 times larger, so it would be like them donating a billion and they're profiting from manufacturing the vaccine. What would be the point of ordering them to Canada and then shipping them out from here? The 7 million we're sending are either vaccines that ended up not being approved in Canada, or excess AstraZeneca & J&J that Canada shamefully is sidelining. But, AstraZeneca & J&J are good vaccines, and donating what we have will help. Also, Canada doesn't have enough for our current demand - which is approximately 70 million vaccines. So if we could get the other 40 million now, we would. Of it's going to be "when they're available. We don't have 100 million doses sitting around because that's more than we're actually going to get in total by the fall. And finally, there have been 2.3 BILLION vaccines delivered so far. Which means canada has "hoarded" about .13% of the world's supply to date. I meant hoard by the fact we took from Covax when almost no other developed Nation did and we also ordered 400M doses a huge number for 38M ppl. Thats the highest ratio of doses to population in the world also where its manufactured isnt all that relevant. A dose u order u receive is a dose u order u receive... u can also change shipment directly and thats still donating doses that woulda gone to u but faster than paying for new contracts that will take longer As for the 100M part... comiting to donate a certain amount doesnt mean it has to be immediate. We havent even received that total since beggining i dont think anyone rational thought the 100M would be immediate just like the USA 500M pledge and UK 100M pledge certainly wont be immediate either
