US Promisses To Donate 500M Doses As Vaccine Expirations Grow

A growing nunber of vaccines are facing going to the garbage as falling demand results in many doses sitting unused, some are close to expiration but some already are. NC for example sent back a bunch of doses back to the Federal Government even tho  half its population still isnt growing

 

The US has comited to donating 500M doses to other nations

 

All other G7 Nations exept Canada that suggested 100M doses (same amount as UK) but has not yet comfirmed, have also comited to donating large amounts of doses

Still earlier than my Country that kept refusing

 

We finally suggested donating 100M doses but its not an offical comitment yet

 

Were the only major industrialized Nation to not yet comit even tho we ordered doses over 10X our population (400M doses for 38M people)

I can kind of understand holding out, who knows if we’ll need boosters for another variant or what not  Y’all do need to just throw a figure out and “commit” to it though because I’m sure if we do need boosters or a slightly amended vaccine soon, all of us will retcon our donation promises

I get that but part of the reason rich Countries ordered so many was because they didnt know which companies would get one first and which would fail so they just bought a bunch from all

 

Now that we have vaccines and we know who has developed them, i dont think we need to have so many outstanding ones

 

We can keep some for ourselves still in reserve for boosters... but a Country of 38M people doesnt need 400M doses still
