He did an interview somewhere back in 2016 where he basically said he wasn't a big fan of BTW or ARTPOP, and he felt that Gaga was too restrictive and surrounded by "fame" at that time. I totally get him and holy smokes, it takes so much skill and dedication to come up with number 1 hits alone (Just Dance, Poker Face, etc.).
