Using jarring phrases was kind of the point. It was meant to grab your attention and piss you off.

10 years on and some of you still don't get it.

Imagine is she sang "no matter f*g, dyk*, or tr*nnie" :rip:

love to see it, although actual latin american people often don’t like the term ‘latinx’ bc it’s an american invention + the letter x doesnt exist in spanish + they suggested ‘latine’, because it would make more sense in spanish BUT still a good move

THANK YOU. Well the letter X does exist in Spanish, you just can’t pronounce it practically with the term “latinx”.

like Mexico is pronounced meh-hee-coh or Oaxaca is pronounced wah-haa-cuh.

Agreed :toofunny:

Idk how anyone can say "latinx" seriously. He (and she) should sing either "latino made" or "latin made". That "latinx" thing jumped straight from performative white woke twitter kids and kind of gives the song that same shallow and performative aftertaste. Like, it's being sang to show how woke you are rather than to show genuine support. That's really the only thing that annoys me about this and I admit, a lot of it is due to my own issues with how people go about sensitivity these days :laughga: it seems to never come from a true, understanding and sympathetic/empathetic place, just a "look how good I am at being good and how bad others are at being good" place.

It's fine though, I guess :yennefer: I'm still streaming the original songs regardless, it doesn't make that much of a difference to me. I'll just pretend to not hear the "-x" next time I see Gaga live

Same, as a Latino I find the term Latinx offensive and it feels like people are trying to make me sound like some kind of program/code/robot :smh:

Hell even me saying “sis” will offend someone somewhere.

Someone here actually was offended by that once

Yep. Latine is definitely way way better to say but then white woke people of America  would start a frenzy about it somehow lmao.

Yeah :rip: I wouldn't have a problem with it if I didn't find it so obviously performative and fake. It's just a bit sad to see that feeling invited into a song as important as BTW.

💅Too cute to be this overworked and underf*cked💅

Oh my god there was?

LITERALLY THO. Like if I was speaking Spanish I’d sound so stupid saying “Latinx”. The letter can’t even work with the rest of the word lmao.

It just kinda sounds like you ran out of breath at the end of the word "latina" :giggle:

is anyone but white americans using latinx tho? lmao i asked my spanish friends once about the term and they were like tf?!

I think I saw a study recently saying only like 3% of latin people in America use that term. It’s really a white invention to tear down gender roles in the latin community
not gonna comment on that but wasn’t the term “Latin” already gender neutral?? “Latinx” is such a weird thing

You can’t even say the word in Spanish without sounding ridiculous lmao. So it’s mainly just white Americans or whitewashed Mexican Americans taking voices away from actual Mexicans

 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Pretty much. Also “Latine” as well I’ve seen.

This is ridiculous though :cryga:

Orient is rather a fascinating word. Its archaic form means east or the land where the sun rises. In South East Asia and East Asia, orient also refers to luxury or anything fancy.

The word 'Orient' being offensive is probably a US thing. I don't think it has offensive or derogatory connotations outside America.

I'm not very good with Social MediaᔀáŽč
