This isn't about representation, though... it's about accumulating generational wealth. Black people weren't allowed to own property or run businesses up until the last 50 or so years, while families of other races have been able to accumulate wealth and pass it down to their subsequent generations for literally hundreds of years. Just look at what happened to Black Wall Street 100 years ago in Tulsa. They built up a thriving business community and it was terrorized and destroyed by white racists. You cannot expect Black people to catch up unless the government makes a concerted effort to fix the problem.

Well to be fair in Canadas case theres not that many ppl whose generations here have been here this long to pass down anything period. Canadas population grew slower in early days of settlers while as a percentage its accepted more immigrants than the US in recent decades hence a higher percentage of population is not here that long (even many whites but to a lesser degree)

In cities where most minorities actually live say Toronto, theres less geberational wealth conpetition as 49% of the population was born outside of Canada... add just 1 generation and that jumps to nearly 70% or so

But back to my point many races on average have been here for less time even than black population starting totally from scratch thats why i dont get the exclusion of other minorities and why i feel this might be politically motivated

It wouldn’t increase overall business to 102.9% .. it would be increasing black owned business in a perfect world where this perfect bill worked perfectly. It’s all hypothetical and Ludacris like this Loan. If everything equals 100% don’t certain percentages  have to go down for others to go up? You’re the one with the name Economy, Cher

Ur not getting what im saying at all. U said it would mean business go up 2.9% im disagreeing with that... most ppl dont own a business (and most still wont after this) program so u cant look at the number of ppl and extrapolate a percentage that way. But either way the overall impact on overall business isnt the point of the program regardless so thats not even important

Btw side footnote 2.9% is out of date btw. That was 2011 census which was a decade ago. Its clower to 4% now

I was being hypothetical assuming the bill got every black person to start a business to show why maybe there’s such a lack of those types of business to begin with.

Well in total numbers obviously... but as a fraction it seems to be the case also... black community may make up 3.5% to 4% of population but their share of business appears to be less than that (at least so they say i dont know what the numbers are)... so theres still a disparity in proportional basis were not even just talking about total numbers

My part of Canada and city has a lot of black ppl (as a whole Canada doesnt have a lot i know but my area does cuz I live in a Toronto Suburb). I say Jamaicans are the 2nd largest nationality in my city after Indians but unless its a carabean restsurant its super rare i see a business owner for anything else that is black tbh so clearly a disparity

if the USA has 17% black population how can they expect everything to be equal? 50/50 white and black in workforce, 50/50 representation everywhere? I do not understand. Just as with being LGBTQ, I would not expect to see representation everywhere 24/7 when only 4.5% of are gay.

Fcking thisssssss. 👏👏👏👏

Well black people can start a business now. What’s stopping them that is unique to every other minority that is not Black? Are black business owners that do exist just super lucky? Like every other business that is successful? There are many people of other races in the states trying to do that and they fail because it’s h a r d to successfully start a business especially as a country grows in population. Try telling every other entrepreneur that is not black that they won’t have a special loan made for them while they struggle.

Ur missing the point. Its about racial disparity which isnt fair

Overall difficulty for every day ppl trying to start something also isnt fair

One doesnt undo the other. In this case its about racial injustice... that doesnt mean overall injustice in the economy as a whole for everyone else doesnt exist also and that assistance isnt warranted

I never said i agreed with helping only 1 group of ppl. I think everyone struggling deserves help (and any race that is struggling disproportionately would in turn also receive more help that way anyway)

But im saying i get the intent and the logic i dont think is flawed even if i wouldnt necessairily go about it this way...

But if they arent going to help every individual enough than at least targeting the most marginalized is a good start

Proving a point of how the word racist is used to a point today that it’s just become a troll word for when someone’s feelings are hurt regardless of any truths

At what point do we stop calling something racial disparity?
