What would of made Carly Rae Jepsen more successful?

As we know, Carly Rae Jepsen keeps releasing bops as a “indie darling”. In the last year I’ve fallen in love with CRJ a lot more. Just makes you think, what caused CRJ to be so underrated and what would of “saved” her career?

I would of released Cut To The Feeling as the lead single off of Emotion and kept I Really Like You as a song left in the vaults.

Embracing RnB. Let's be real she's pure pop in a RnB world.

Don’t think she’d suit doing R&B.

I'm not sure there's anything she could've have done about it. I think the reason why hasn't been able to sustain a mainstream career is because Call Me Maybe was such a gigantic hit to the point that it became a meme, so that people couldn't take the song or her as an artist serious. That song will always overshadow everythink she does. Which is a shame, because she's an incredible artist.

Run Away With Me as the lead single from EMOTION, with the video budget I Really Like You got :triggered:

I Really Like You had a lot of buzz at release but everyone felt like it sounded just like Call Me Maybe. It was a terrible judgement on her management's side, and derailed the rest of the album.

At least it found it's place as a cult classic and will live on forever in that regard! :vegas:

It was like I Really Like You was trying to replicate CMM and people saw her as a joke. Releasing something like CTTF or RAWM would of been something different for her

Better single choices and maybe more collaborations.

If she’d debuted alongside Katy/Gaga/Kesha in 2008 she probably would’ve had a much bigger career.

I think her sound is really "sweet bubblegum pop" and this sound has been dying since 2011/2021 :(

I'm not sure, but all I know is I'm glad the GP didn't swallow her up in a way. EMOTION is one of the greatest pop albums in our generation. The GP is so, if there was a worse description of basic that I could think of, I'd use it, but they are that. CMM was this MASSIVE hit and if the GP saw her as a joke, it's their loss and shows the absolute naivety and lack of musical taste. This doesn't just go for Carly, this goes for essentially the majority of musicians out there.

I guess this had nothing to do with OP's question, I'm sorry. It just was a thought I wanted to express

She literally could have (y can’t u type would instead of of) released any song off Emotion instead of IRLY and SMASH off the hype alone.
They are so stupid. Releasing IRLY in 2015 when we were already vibing to Panda and Trap Queen.
Carly deserved better :noparty:

Scooter forced her to record Kiss in 2 months, and in the end, it was way too generic. :laughga:

IRLY tried to replicate CMM (even Scooter admitted that :toofunny:and was not a good lead single choice for that reason since it seemed she was stuck with her debut era image and sound.

As others said, releasing any other song from the record would have showcased better maturity and growth. But at the same time, 2015 was a weird mix of what was topping the charts so idk if she would have been as successful.

They didnt milk her CMM Album enough. All of its singles tanked and needed to be pushed harder. IRLY would've been a nice second single, but the Label stopped backing Emotions after it flopped. Honestly more Label Support would've changed her career.
