Oh wow, I haven't seen it for years but it's just as bad as I remember it... I want to know who gave the OK on this concept? Because it should have been axed at the storyboard stage... :smh:

Exactly. I don't know how so many people could've signed off on that...Also, it has nothing to do with the song anyway. It's a great song, and they could've had a fab video to go with it instead of that disaster.

Agreed. The song is good. Hell, I prefer the video mix over the single mix but that video and the lyrics with the imagery of Native American women? Yeah, I can't for the life of me understand how ANYONE thought that was an good idea. And it even came out in November, which is Native American History month. Like who even—? :deadbanana:

Adoremus in caelum, Palutena. Dea luminis.

Gwen Stefani did those things back when there was no idea of "cultural apropriation", on the contrary people were judged by bringing elements of other cultures, she did those things to show her love for these cultures. Now there's this idea of cultural apropriation that is 99% americans wanting to have a reason to lash out on someone.

What we really have to think is: Is this person making money from this culture without giving anything back to these people? Is this person taking religious imagery/clothing? Is this person disrespecting the culture they are claiming they are paying homage? That's what we should think about.

I am authistic, so don't be offended if I make a mess sometimes.

my first musical love as a teenager

omg me too. I tried to sing with Gwen for the first time and if I bleach it's only because of Tragic Kingdom.

Also there is a difference between making a whole fashion show inspired by Africa with only white people and white designers, and paying a tribute to another culture in a pop video or for a red carpet look. Or because your bf's family is from India. Gwen has always been an angel... I think. <3

(maybe the 'looking hot' video was a bit cringey though...)

Cultural appropriation doesn't exist. The end.

Where does it start and stop? I'm watching a Japanese TV, using a Korean phone.. thats not it, right?

OK  so im a big fan of Chinese and Indian food.... that's not it, is it?

OK... so I drive a Japanese car for work and its important that its Japanese... is that it?

OK... so my friend has a kimono from when she visited Japan. She wears it often. Is that it?

OK, so we had a Mexican food stall and we wore sombrero, moustaches, and ponchos. Is that it?

OK, so my friend LOVES black culture. Loves it. She has many many items of clothing that are strongly Jamaican in design. She wears them all the time.

"Cultural appropriation" is the current piece of self defeating "woke" terminology that shoots itself in the foot. Equality? Great. Unity? Fine. "You can't wear this pattern because you weren't born into it" absolutely ridiculous. Grow up.

It's the whole culture appreciate vs cultural appropriation thing again

It's a fairly new discussion, in the past every culture was treated as fair game and the general public didn't care. We just don't know where to draw the line yet

I'd be interested to know if any actual Japanese people had a problem with it, because if I remember correctly there were groups that were excited to see their culture embraced and displayed for westerners to enjoy

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

- The "Looking Hot" video. That was a hot mess that never should've been green-lit, but that's on the whole band and their team, not Gwen specifically, and it totally effed up the reception of Push & Shove.

Damn I haaaate the video cause it buried the rest of the P&S era (I mean the album was kinda overproduced but Sparkle and the acoustic sessions>>>>>) and basically ended ND lol

 only some PC folks are triggered by this. No Japanese people ever get offended by this.

Japanese women even try to help you whenever you're interested in wearing kimonos and Japanese clothing. Thank God American way of thinking has not invaded the whole world yet

I will never get over how stupid the concept of "Cultural appropriation" is.
Art is born from inspiration, exchange, interpretation and reinterpretation.
How limited is your vision of art, and our entire society if you believe in such nonsense.

Time. It will not wait, no matter how hard you hold on...

I'm not trying to start a flame war or anything, but I'm just genuinely curious.

Gwen has been called out a LOT over the years for Japanese cultural appropriation. However, Madonna has been using Japanese imagery in her work since 1998, and hardly anything has been said about it, at least to my knowledge. Why?

Let's not pretend like Gaga didn't use "cultural appropriation" in multiple of her looks. Double standards as always.
