enissa11 2,984
So Yesterday i watched the Rina Sawayama Tiny desk performance cause for some reason it went under my radar, and OMG i was Blown away!!!! I don't know if someone already talked about it but I have some thoughts: The first thing i loved is that besides maybe some stems, all the sound is 100% live including her amazing vocals, Rina really never lipsyncs at all, and the sound of her mic is filter free, it's just her pure voice, then she adds some new elements that aren't in the studio version, like those harmonies with the violins, it really made my hair stand on end, it was incredible, you can notice the hard work and the preparation on rehearsals. Then you have the incredible improvement on Rina's stage presence, this is so far her best performance ever, she really seems so confident and genuine, and it's like now she's evolving as a true performer, you can notice how it's like she's in character in every song, and she really feels every note and the energy of the music, it's just so cool to watch. The best part is that it's not only Rina, everyone in the band seems so much into the music, it makes the performance sound alive, played by humans, like a real band, with emotions and natural flaws; not like robots, restricted filtered humans or models making a parade while singing (or most frequently lipsyncing) as some other most well-known pop singers today like Dua lipa, Justin Bieber, Taylor swift, Selena Gomez , Ava Max etc I feel like it has really been lost over time, one of the few big pop singers that incorporated such amount of live instrumentation is Gaga, plus her theatricality and stage persona make her lives performances truly unique. Since we know that Rina is a big fan of gaga i think that she really took away those positives aspects of her musicianship and performance from the Gaga's artistry, of course alongside her other influences, and now is incorporating it into her own work. I think it's just matter of give her a opportunity in a big stage with a moderate budget to surprise people and deliver an iconic performance because the talent and the perspective is there!!! What do you think about this performance? what's the thing you liked the most?? Mad Architect of Light
Leo 3,000
I'm obsessed with her, but I don't think anyone is 'Gaga's heir'. She doesn't have to be the 'next' anyone, she's her own artist.
monstrosity 3,939
Rina has definitely a huge potential to be one of the biggest star. She actually has star power, passion artistic integrity and dedication. Star power is lacking for most of new pop girls imo, but she def has the thing. Idk if the US is gonna buy what she’s selling tho, but her talent is unmatched compared to other acts of her generation imo

I know but i mean it in the sense of impact as an artist and her dna in the new performers, so far she's the only one i've seen that has that gaga essence. Not even ava max that is so frequently compared to gaga, they are merely compared because they look similar physically. littlepotter 74,651
I haven't gotten that much into hee discography but I love her as a person and point of view as an artist, excited to see where she goes next. If really I had to name a younger singer that has the gaga essence, it would be her, I just can’t think of anyone else

HausOfAntonio 7,995
Rina is the only current pop star that came out in the more recent years that actually has me FULLY interested. She has a filly realised and evolving vision that makes her so exciting to watch, her music is impeccable, her voice and stage presence are great... she’s the full package and I wish she gets a more than well deserved hit (not that that makes her more of less impressive but it would be amazing for her). Chris Thomason 938
If Rina can release more albums on par with SAWAYAMA or top it she could very well be. It's been a long time since I fully enjoyed an entire album from an artist other than Gaga
LeafBug 7,779
One of the few true talents from this generation of manufactured artists.
rinasawachanta 2,690
I've said it before, but one thing that fascinates me about Rina (beyond her talent and great songs) is the respect she has for Gaga and her legacy. I agree with the fact that she could be a sort of "heir" to Gaga, who, as such, doesn't just replicate or copy what her mentor once did and is able to take it to another level. I think those are the best pop artists: those who acknowledge the inspiration they have found in Gaga or her predecessors but still do something completely different and original.
