So, y'all are happy with no security around one of the most targeted events of the year?

Okay.

In my messy era.

Given the amount of LGBT hate crimes, particularly against transgender people this year, one would have hoped NYC Pride would be smart enough to try and coordinate a plan with the NYPD. A block sounds too far away for a quick response if some crazed MAGA starts shooting up the crowd.

You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.

Did y’all even read the whole thing? They’re still gonna be there, they just won’t be a integral aspect of it. There’s still gonna be law enforcement there to make sure nothing bad happens. Read before you comment LOL

:fail:I really should. My dumb ass just read the headline and a small section. I automatically thought this was was about defunding police. Im sure many queer cops would have also been there.

It's very clear there's police who should not be in their job and charged for their behaviour, but it's still a minority (esp outside the US).

Pride of all events should be inclusive and sending officers to pride will help heal some divisions by showing the public they mean well and giving the officers a welcoming exposure to LGBT+ culture.

People yassing at this really want trump to be reelected in 2024 like how tf could you not see the problem with banning an organisation that has protected pride participants from hateful people many times in the past. Yall are so delusional, being against police violence doesnt mean being completly out of touch with reality :saladga:

Mr Ricky

Why are people happy with this decision? Are they stupid or what? Basically screaming for it. :triggered: You can't just lower security level in one of the most crowded cities.. :awkney:

Ugh I really do understand the idea of "defund the police" and normally being around a cop makes my anxiety spike. But just the other day I needed to call the police and if they weren't there idk what I would have done... :bradley:

This is stupid. IMO. Police should be allowed to participate if they want. It's a free country. Banning people from anything is stupid.

Also less police protection for a parade of any kind is stupid.

I was thinking to attend pride this year. But I guess I am not doing it because I'm not stupid.

That's not what defund the police means. But honestly this idea of less police protection at a parade is stupid.

Also most of the police that work Pride are volunteers. I am just so upset at this "ban."

I read in NYT that they are being required to stay at least a block away from the event, and that “private security” would be hired in their place... Like wtf is private security gonna do when a psycho with a machine gun decides to light the event up from a building??

I don’t understand how this makes any sense. It’s like asking for Pulse/Orlando/Vegas all over again. Insensitive to say, but it could ultimately happen.

I mean, I agree that there should be some sort of security at least, but what's with the bootlicking in this thread :laughga:

Like, I expected to see those blue line flags at one point :bear:

How is people worrying about the safety at the gay pride bootlicking?
