The article states that they are reducing police presence because it makes some people feel on edge and uncomfortable- not necessarily because they cause problems.

I mean isn’t this kind of bad and dangerous?Like okay it’s modern America, but still this could led to someone pulling and doing the worst.I think that’s a bad move

Honestly, I don't see it any more.  Maybe in the past it was more common - but certainly not at pride parades.  They're there to help.

They harass queer and trans people of color, this is well documented. It happens every pride, I always see reports of it.

Gurls, I can't imagine Pride here in Brazil without the police, there are aways dozens of robberies, especially cell phones, some hate crime from people watching the pride. In São Paulo there are always a few million people in the Pride, so it can't happen without the help of police.

I am authistic, so don't be offended if I make a mess sometimes.

That is so wrong. Good luck in a world without Police

There was a world before police :vegas: good things still happened despite that somehow.

NYC Pride is also working to reduce the New York Police Department's security and first responder presence at its events, the organization said.

Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen!

Reducing the presence of other First Responders sounds like a terrible idea. Hopefully everyone stays well.

Where you had to obbey the rules of your feudal lord minions that were way worse than cops, a world without cops worked well when people lived in villages of 200 people where everyone was everyone's cousin and knew everyone.

I know someone noted that they’ll still be there to do their jobs but Ive been to NYC Pride and I can’t imagine it without police there, it would be absolute chaos.

This is bad.

There are good and LGBT cops out there who would’ve liked being part of pride. We can’t fight fire with fire and create more divides than inclusions, all in the name of fitting a hateful narrative. Now, this is the perfect gateway for a homophobic shooter to show up without fear.

This is a disaster ticking bomb.

And a lot of bad stuff too

In my opinion this whole get rid of police movement is not something i would ever support until a very detailed and realistic plan of what would replace them is put forward (which im not against but one needs to exist)...

u cant just have no law enforcement at all. Thats total anarchy waiting to happen. Ppl would do anything they want without any fear or accountability for their actions. Suddenly the infractions of cops that went out of line would pail in comparison to what would occur

Asking to get rid of police without a proper replacement plan because of the issues police have sounds a lot to me like getting rid of a critical medication u take for a health problem because they havent yet come up with a formula with no bad side effects. But not taking it is even worse than taking it

I remember when I went to LA Pride a few years ago they had caught someone with weapons on way to pride.

Also do people not realize that a lot of the police officers that go to pride are part of the lgbt community? All that seems so sketchy but idk I guess people want that

So the lives of people the police murder and harass with impunity are worth your percieved safety, and I personaly don't agree with that at all.  There are other ways to keep each other safe. I would like to not discuss this further.
