Will Dua’s “Future Nostalgia” era inspire other pop stars to work harder?

I mean, Dua Lipa is known as the WHO terror. Yes she worked a lot but she also broke pandemic rules all the time. What's the price of making some big record label more money?

Give me a break. Gaga campaigned for Biden, shot countless photography shoots for Haus Labs, did campaigns for Valentino, Tudor and Don P, and filmed during the pandemic.

It's a question of what you want to do with your time Every artist broke rules during the pandemic.

Gaga's on a different game now :haroon:

Yeah but 2 singles per era with every album since ARTPOP, it's getting old actually. :neyde:

Definitely!I think Dua showed the pop market that no matter the circumstances and the period of an era, if she delivers, her fans and the gp will eat it up.I mean she's still moving around 34k for an album, which leaked and is 1 year old.She still has a song from 2019,which got 1,7m streams on spotify yesterday. She has the most ticket selling livestream(i think she got a Guinness record for this). She keeps selling. Thanks Dua,for showing the industry that long pop eras are still the thing.

That avatar of yours is life.

Not really. This is how new artists have to work in order to establish their brand and make sure that it sticks. She's hustling like this right now so she can afford to have an era like Chormatica 10 years later into her career.

Compare it to Gaga's efforts for The Fame era and it will seems like nothing.

New artists have no choice.

But is Dua really a new artist? She’s being here for like 6 years

In what way she broke rules doing those things

No one is doing a professional photoshoot without the whole team being tasted, wearing masks and social distancing when possible

Not the same thing as vacation and traveling the world lol

And no shade to Dua, I really don't care

But what is this comparison

red wine, cheap perfume and a filthy pout

She's not a new artist indeed but she's a new superstar.

And, imo, the rules depends more of your business status than the number of years you tried to make it.

That's why to me she still has to do it when others don't.

I hope so, it's a joy to see a proper era again. Because streaming can kill an album's momentum, so often, artists drop all or nearly all their singles pre-album now and then the album's released and all future singles and even promotion stops, with touring being all they do. It means an era seems over when its only just got started. It also makes music seem so disposable as it means that the artist can much more efficiently move on to create another album immediately. In the streaming age, artists are pumping out albums at a quicker rate and it doesn't leave much time for an era to grow and breathe. I can't imagine what the downside is of releasing lots of singles per album. It means that even if someone doesn't like your output, chances are, you'll eventually release one they do like and while they won't buy your album, they'll buy the single, which is more money for you and the label. Everyone's a winner. If you put art out there that you worked really hard to create, why don't you want people to experience the majority of it?

But her work ethic is not unusual for a fairly new artist. She is still a new artist in the sense that even though she's been around for a while, she only had one album out until recently and her collection of #1's and top 10's were very small until now. This is also the first album where the US has truly cared about her and she's gained major traction all over the world. Before, she was very much a local UK act. So this is a big part of why she's working herself to the bone right now. She's establishing a solid fanbase so she won't need to work this hard for every album the rest of her life.

We are taking about work ethic. Not vacations. My point, which completely flew over your head, was that Gaga "worked" during a pandemic.  She could have ALSO  "worked" to promote her album during the pandemic.

You are so quick to get insulted you don't even know what you are responding to.

Yes Dua Lipa committed to this era, but let's not forget that it's the MUSIC that drove this era's success.

Future Nostalgia is a rock solid album with no skips. There's no gimmicks or cheap features. It's not controversial or political. It's a fun and danceable record the whole way through.
