It should be set. Far too many elections in the past have been called by PM’s just to get more power like Theresa May’s failed election in 2017

Okay, so this is actually a bit more complicated than made out here and I can’t believe I have to defend the f*cking tories again 

This is to stop situations that we landed in when Theresa lost her majority and the government basically came to a standstill for years.  The queen is meant to be an apolitical figure but she was asked to dissolve parliament and allow an early election so the United Kingdom could finally get moving again.  This bill means the Queen doesn’t need to get involved again, especially as she got flack from both sides of the Brexit coin for doing so.

Not at all. The power to call elections should not be standing with the PM. They should be a limit of how many elections can be called - in this case every 5 years. If a Government loses their majority it’s their fault and should accept and get on with running a minority Government.

I disagree.  Theresa May’s government came to a standstill for far too long over Brexit and we have to avoid that happening again.

It was her own fault, she got approval from Parliament to hold an election and she messed it up. She had a majority before 2017 and threw it away. I literally celebrated when she lost her majority.

Yeah, the PM can call an election before the 5 year bracket. The PM had the power before 2011.
