After America is vaccinated, I would hope Joe Biden helped other countries get their vaccines done and over with. It will help us and the entire world and would Probably do a lot to help our foreign relations after trump. Unfortunately, I don’t see that happening.

USA is donating Costa Rica vaccines, I read it today :firega:

As unfortunate as this is, what do you think should be done? Richer countries should allow their own people to die just because they have more money?

Frankly if it weren't for the richer countries, the poorer countries wouldn't have a vaccine at all. Not to mention the billions in aid richer countries provide to poorer ones.

If there were a surplus of vaccines, then that's another story. But every country has the right to look out for their own first.

teenagers with no chronic illness is in no way shape of form in risk of dying bc of covid please

the only reason they are rushing to make everyone get vaccinated is to make things run normal again economically in their country

Surprised? Not really. :haroon: mRNA vaccines are way more expensive than Astra Zeneca and such. Poor countries should get AZ now that it's rejected by others... :yennefer:

Wealthier countries have the ‘disposable’ income to invest in the vaccines during development, if it leads to a viable product that’s great, but if not whatever, they have their fingers in 100 pies. Poorer nations don’t have this kind of money to gamble with.

likewise, priority will be given to larger/bulk orders, which benefits wealthier countries for obvious reasons

100% agree with you. It's not about how but about when those orders were placed in my opinion as well. Most low income countries have purchased agreements in January 2021, when most countries already started vaccinating their population, as far as I know.

Here is to hoping that everyone will have access to vaccines as fast as possible.

I don't think anybody said that. Of course every country is prioritising their people first, as you said it's unfortunate that not everyone has access to them equally but yeah, life's not fair. I only hope that everyone that has this situation under control will give a hand to those that struggle. Which I honestly think will happen, if not from the goodness of their heart, but because the faster we get this under control everywhere the faster we get back to normal.

Right. So that everybody stop camping quietly on allocations and rush back to work like dogs to spend tons of money like never. I know, that's my boomer gen's point of view here, but I'm glad I'm not living that kind of urge anymore...

RAMROD

Isn't Canada the biggest hoarder in this?? :bradley:

They bought too much, much more than they need, and now some of them are expiring :triggered:

If Canada were human, they are one of those panic buyers in grocery store. Not necessary. :diane:

Just A Holy Fool

As a result of this, Covid is far from over. Life may return to normal in western countries, but developing countries will still have a hard time controlling this until they can get enough vaccine. Hopefully Canada, USA, etc will share their stockpiles.

You also need to factor in the logistics of shipping, storing and maintaining the mRNA vaccines when it comes to this.

Yes, I understand it’s completely unfair, but even the cost of the freezers for the vaccine is insane and there’s no way poor countries could afford that to mass vaccinate in the millions at different locations in each city.

I live in the Arabian Gulf, in a considerably wealthy country, they could only pull off having Pfizer in one location, while the rest administer AstraZeneca.

A lot of countries opted for AstraZeneca, Sinopharm, etc because they’re easier to handle.

Countries are going to look out for their own first. Period. That’s life. The reality is, as the wealthier countries get things under control, they can donate to the developing countries and help out. That’s all that can be done. There is no point in blaming wealthier countries for getting their populations under control. They have millions of innocent and at risk citizens too.
