So gov. regulated job losses require the gov. to replenish lost work ...

Sounds about right ...

seems like he's committed to the green movement ....

I only support this if the government is going to pay for the education and training these people need to transition into their new careers. Not sure how some of the dems expect folks who have been coal miners all their life, for example, to be able to function in a job outside of that :bear:

You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.

I support it regardless because climate needs and the needs of humanity in general >>> people who work in an already-dying industry's needs.

However, I've said for the longest time that part of our initiative should be to give fossil fuel workers an out. Free training, a guaranteed job, the works. It's a dramatic problem that needs a dramatic solution.

We need people to maintain and install solar panels, wind turbines, electric bits in dams, etc. There's no lack of jobs and green energy is a booming industry.

But if they turn down the training and the new job then they're on their own

Its about the leadership taking care of its citizens ... which the Biden leadership is showing ...

First off... the climate issue affects everyone in the US ... regardless if you believe in it or not ...

secondly...

Fossil Fuel workers often are generational ... and didn't know that their life's work was damaging the climate ... so it's not their fault... they are getting shafted in a way ... so Biden is sayn' that we are gonna take care of our own...

I wonder tho if logistically this sounds a lot easier than it actually is

The new jobs in green energy that replace fossil fuels wont necessairily happen in the same concentrated areas where the jobs are displaced

U may have a mine or pit for example and a bunch of workers in a town work there... the manufacturing for green energy will be in different spots as will installations etc

These ppl need to be offered general education or assistance to go into something new of their choosing. Trying to put them specifically in the new energy industry that will replace theirs will be more complicated than it sounds on the surface tbh

Sounds good in theory. We'll see :huntyga: Our government will never do it

Tax credits and or payments that compensate for lost wages could also be part of the plan...

The US gov. has the most revenue of any country , besides china and we spend a huge amount on military research and wasted logistical chicanery ... fraud ect...

These people need to be compensated..

Right now there is a left wing (slight majority)  so some of the legislation will get thru the Right wing opposition ...

how much remains to be seen.

Theres different ways they could go about it. My point is just that the idea that their jobs should be replaced with green energy jobs specifically is people oversimplifying things and not taking logistics into account as usual

For the reasons i mentioned it wouldnt be that simple in the majority of cases and communities

But i definitely support other ways to help them!

That's the beauty of being a citizen and not a representative :gayhat: we get to suggest things like this even if they're not always practical or even possible. But it's what I'd want to see happen.

I wonder how many of them would come join FPL :lolly: with solar taking off in Florida to the point that people can sell excess electricity to the electric company and the constant threat of severe weather and hurricanes...I mean, like I said in my first post, there's no shortage of work :laughga:

This exactly. It's like that everywhere. No more coal, no more fossil fuels, but then people's entire livelihoods are compromised and some can't afford to put food on the table. It's terrible. Same with these electrical vehicle promises. There isn't even proper infrastructure in place to recycle the current amount of EV components, and better infrastructure for these changes should come first. THEN the groundwork is already laid for what is wanted and needed in the future. Smh.

I never understood the push for electric cars before moving our electric grid itself away from fossil fuels.

Like, good for you, you drive a hybrid. I assume you charged your car at home? Where the electricity is made using fossil fuels? :huntyga:

Coal mining is manual labor. A LOT of jobs are manual labor. There are plenty of things these people could be doing other than coal mining.
