In an interview Wednesday night with the Stonewall Democratic Club of NYC, an influential LGBTQ political group, Yang offended members with his remarks. "It was like he never met a gay person his life, even though he kept reminding us people on his staff were gay," filmmaker Harris Doran, who attended the endorsement meeting as a member, said Thursday. "It was like tokenizing us." Some of the comments: Spoiler I genuinely do love you and your community," Yang said, according to a video recording of his remarks that was shared on Twitter by Doran but recorded by another group member. "You're so human and beautiful. You make New York City special. I have no idea how we ever lose to the Republicans given that you all are frankly in, like, leadership roles all over the Democratic Party." He added: "We have, like, this incredible secret weapon. It's not even secret. It is a form of tokenization though and is sadly becoming more common. But I don't think it's offensive, just misinformed. EDIT: Just saw the vid and oh Jesus Christ that video is only minor cringe. Y’all don’t touch enough grass to realize there’s well meaning and awkward straight guys like him everywhere. I didn't watch the full video but from the 10 mins or so, it was just a disaster through and through. Identity politics doesn't work if you have no political experience to back yourself up with. We need to literally stop being offended by things that are NOT offensive at all. The media has been reaching to drag Yang for filth for a few months now. I remember when people were offended that he himself, an Asian American, wasn’t offended enough by an SNL cast member who made choice statements about Asian people.
