I feel like it ruins the legends and myths about them. Maybe I'm thinking of it too literal but I think of the movies with Celebi and how it returns to the people it's time traveled with and how in a way, they have a friendship, none have said anything about it megaevolution and I know it's because I wasn't a plan yet to have megas but the legends never speak of anything like it, I don't think I'm making much sense, but I personally think that megas for the legendaries messes up with the legends about them, they're legends and,rare for a reason and as they are. I saw this picture, don't know if it's real or not but it listed the Pokemon from each generation to get a mega-evolution and Celebi was included in the Johto section. I agree with Mewtwo and Genesect, but I think all other legendaries should be left alone because of the legends and myths. Also with Celebi, if it was able to have a mega, wouldn't it have been able to save itself in the movies? From what I remember it either died or was very close to death.
