Canon 672
Ok class, this is Pokemon: EVs 101 take your seats. :whip: We'll start with the basics: /// What is a EV -An EV (known as an Effort Value) can be summed up as a "Stat booster" of sorts when a Pokemon is defeated in battle. Every single pokemon in the game have at least 1 EV to give when defeated by one of your pokemon. Ill give you an example below: By encountering and defeating a wild Litleo, that pokemon gives your pokemon +1 EV in Special Attack. By encountering and defeating a wild Deerling, that pokemon gives your pokemon +1 EV in Speed. By encountering and defeating a wild Absol, that pokemon gives your pokemon +2 EV in Attack. Complete List of Pokemon EVs:Here /// But what does this mean? This is where super training makes everything above much easier in this Generation. ^^^ Those pokemon you defeated above adds to the stats of your pokemon (The yellow hexagon) If you started with a pokemon (like your starters at the beginning) that pokemon would now have +1 Special Attack, +1 Speed, and +2 Attack EV's added to it. ----- Heres a side by side comparison using identical pokemon except gained EV stats lvl 15 Charmander #1 has +25 Speed Ev's & +25 Attack gained lvl 15 Charmander #2 has +50 Speed Ev's gained If these Charmanders where to fight off against each other, Charmander #2 would always move first since it is trained better in Speed. However Charmander #1 will slightly have better Attack based moves that'll do more damage ----- /// The 2 Rules of EVs #1) A pokemon can ONLY have a grand total of 510 EVs #2) A pokemon can ONLY have a maximum of 252 EVs in a SINGLE stat. Example: My Charizard has 252 Evs in Special Attack, 252 Evs in Speed, and 6 in HP ( 252+252+6=510 Evs! = Completely Trained Pokemon ) ------ /// Super Training and You Remember that whole thing about pokemon giving your pokemon specific Evs? (like the Litleo, Deerling, and Absol above) WELP, thanks to Super Training, you can forget all that since its 100000x times easier using S.T. By using the bags in S.Training, itll give you the EVs you want by tapping away at the bag you desire. Its really THAT easy this generation. Want a full 252 Speed Ev trained pokemon? Just use the speed training + bags. 252 Ev HP? Training and bags. 252 Ev Attack? You get the picture. 100000x time easier. Once you hit 510 total Evs you're done! ----- I think I generalized and simplified EVs the best I can. Hope you learned some stuff In short, EVs help boost specific stats depending on what your training it for. Want a more powerful Fire Blast Charizard = Max out the 252 in Special Attack. Want to have a really Special-Defensive wall? Slap those 252 Special Defense + HP Evs on a Blissey. Simple! Ill explain IVs in my next post.
VFD 57
Horde encounters are also a great way to EV train your Pokémon. While in the past it took at least a 2 to 3 hours to fully train one, you can effectively do it in 30 minutes.

Ill explain IVs in my next post. thank you so much! :worship2: So in Gen 6 there is no need to battle and level up your Pokémon in order for them to get the EVs? It's just as simple as using ST? Also, does the level of a Pokémon at the start of it's EV training matter? And how do natures play into all of this? Sorry for all the questions, but after 15 years of playing, I just gotta know :laughga:
Lavender Pubes 0
Aha so its all about how you want to distribute the EVs between the stats!

Sorry for all the questions, but after 15 years of playing, I just gotta know Ill try and answer in order: 1) Since Gen 6 included Super Training, you dont have to battle at all to get EVs. Just using Super Training and Bags replaces the whole defeat a pokemon --> get their evs. 2)The level of the pokemon doesnt matter. A lvl 1 with no EVs = a lvl 100 with no EVs in terms of boosted stats Say you have a fully trained Pokemon (Super Training shows a full white bar on the right) and you want to reset that pokemon back to 0 Evs and give it specific Evs. If you play S.T a while you may receive a Reset Bag (Its a pure white bag). Have your pokemon knock out the bag and it'll reset their Evs to 0. (Its extremely helpful since the previous generation had you use Berries to decrease Evs) Once theyre reset, they'll be ready for EV/Super Training. (The bar on the right in ST will now be blank) Ill explain Natures in my next post, then IVs
Lavender Pubes 0
Ikr! You would think that 15 years would be enough to learn But I really want to get into the competitive scene because after I finish my games, I tend to just shelf them away for months. Youre right tbh , plus XY have a ****ty postgame so theres not much to do
Canon 672
Pokemon Natures 101 :whip: This is even easier to understand then EVsIVs ----- /// What is a Nature? - A Nature is both a stat Booster and stat Decreaser, dependent on which is applied to your pokemon. -The Boosted stat will receive a 10% increase in that stat -The Decreased stat will receive a 10% decrease in that stat -There are 25 total natures your pokemon could have. (20 boosters/decreasers, 5 Neutral) Here's a graph: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Nature Dont worry about Flavors, they're irrelevant in Gen 6. --- Ill make a Example use a random pokemon and made up stats. Use the Graph above to herlp understand. and remember the +/- 10% --- Ralts 1 Nature = Hardy (No boosters or decreasers) 10 Hp 10 Attack 10 Defense 10 Sp.Attack 10 Sp.Defense 10 Speed Ralts 2 Nature = Naive (Speed Increaser & Sp.Defense decreasers) 10 Hp 10 Attack 10 Defense 10 Sp.Attack 9 Sp.Defense 11 Speed --- In short: Natures slightly boost/decrease a pokemons stat. Its highly suggested you stay away from neutral natures as (even though they balance out) since the boosters rewards outweight the decreased stat. --- /// Combine EVs and Natures for great effects! (I'll just make another example) I really want a super powerful Special Attack based Gardevior. To start this, look at Gardeviors Stats: Here We can see her best stat is Spercial Attack (obviously). So we want one of these Natures below: -Modest -Mild -Quiet -Rash So now that we have our stat booster, we need to choose a decreaser. In this case, since Gardevior isnt a physical attacker (attack stat) we'll decrease the Attack Stat. So our winning Nature is: Modest Our Gardevior will now recieve a 10% Boost in Special Attacks (like Psychic and Moonblast). And recieve a 10% decrease in Attack moves, which she doesnt really use) --- Now if you go to Super Training and smack 252 Ev's in Special Attack, that Moonblast is going to hurt something fierce. --- And thats Natures in a nutshell! Why is it so hard to get the perfect nature and ability at the same time? lol are you breeding with a foreign pokemon? MM might make it somewhat worth it if you just randomly hatch a shiny while trying to get your perfect pokemon I was breeding some cyndaquil to trade, and burmy to get a male one and I randomly got shinys of them (Shiny burmy is crap btw. Might as well get a colour blind person to tell you the difference. thank god the shiny one was male so I have a pretty mothim now )
