StarstruckIllusion 53,563
Y’all... we gotta frown. A big loss for hard working families everywhere if this fails. Light a prayer circle for the union 🥺 “Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer, Alabama, were voting overwhelmingly against forming a union Thursday after a monthslong campaign in which labor had hoped to make inroads into the sprawling company. As vote-tallying paused for the night, 1,100 employees had voted against unionizing, compared to 463 in favor. The tally presented a nearly insurmountable climb for union supporters to obtain the 1,608 votes needed to win. If it is approved, the union would be the first for Amazon, the country's second-largest employer, in the United States.”

LilyLark 10,213
I will say I did see someone argue that the media should have made this more about the atrocious working conditions and less about the wages, because $15 an hr can (arguably) be livable in Alabama. Yes, but the industry standard for warehouse work was $24/hr bc it is physically gruelling, and Amazon has to be cyberbulliee by Bernie Sanders and Ro Khanna to scrape it up to $15/hr. They lowered wages everywhere and are lying about being progressive... it’s getting too weird.

All this info around Amazon makes me regret using them... they literally broke multiple labor laws to get this result and I hope they’re held accountable

I agree, but I think if you grow up dirt poor in a state where you can survive on $15 an hour (and many people make less) that argument isn't going to hold as much weight as "we gotta unionize so they don't make us piss in bottles or keep working even if we sprain our back." It's a sad situation when multiple big corporations practice this sh*t. It's also absurd, considering just how much money they have....

I read that they actually have started to note down how much “company time” you’re wasting when you do that, and they use it against you, Target has a similar strategy in place apparently. If Amazon unionized, it’d def start a wave effect across the world. It’s kinda like when the first state legalized gay marriage. Now look at the results... They have to go thru giant airport style security gates everytime they have to go and when they do, they get a strokes and disciplined. They also get those strikes whenever they take sick days, regardless of doctors notes: 6 of them and you’re fired. It’s shocking how uniquely bad they are, and they’re dragging the whole industry down to their inhumane standards
