Gaga and her Metaphors

What I also notice about her songwriting is that she likes paradoxes as well.

bad romance - a romance is expected to be good

electric chapel - the chapel is often perceived as a gloomy and silent place

perfect illusion - a illusion is not supposed to be perfect otherwise that would be reality

stupid love - the love should not be stupid, it should be great

sour candy- candies are supposed to be sweet and not sour

This line from Bad Romance is something I have never fully understood:

"I want your leather studded kiss in the sand."

Now what does that mean? What is a "leather studded kiss"? :fatcat: and why in the sand?

It may be deeper than this, but I always just took at as her conjuring this image of this rockstar type (lüc carl) giving her a "rough kiss". She is using "leather studded" to conjure up this imagery of some rocker and to set up this "rough" imagery and sand is also rough and course.

It's like in Yoü and I when she sings "Muscle cars drove a truck right through my heart". It doesn't make sense, muscle car's can't drive trucks, but it conjures this imagery of this car obsessed guy who loves muscle cars and she has fallen for him so hard it feels like a truck just hit her. She's just using imagery the listener will associate with masculinity, power, strength and just being totally floored by this guy.

It doesn't need to make "sense" in a literal way, it is written in a way to create a mood and create associations.
