Most of the community spread where I live has been from direct contact with infected persons. There's only been 1-2 cases of surface transmission. We even had a busy pizza shop where takeaway pizzas were being made my a maskless covid+ worker and no customers tested positive. People will still fear monger and say "but covid can live on surfaces for 734 months!!".

I'm sure the CDC bitches who wrote this know better than me about health protocols but people are disgusting and I'll always be here for more cleanliness in public buildings and accessible hand sanitizer.

BUT, let's not go back to pre-pandemic situations either. Washing your hands can still prevent many other viral and bacterial infections. So please, never stop (1) sneezing in your elbows, (2) desinfecting before and after eating, (3) washing with soap before leaving the home and after coming back home, and (4) refraining from touching your mouse and nose while outside. Basic hygiene helps either way, and may help contain a future pandemic while they're still manageable: scientists from the WHO research team in Wuhan concluded that a virus like corona has a 60-70% chance of dying out naturally before they reach a big city (upon which they can spread quickly). Basic hygiene, voluntary mask-wearing when you've caught a cold and staying home when ill will prevent future outbreaks from evolving into pandemics. And no, this does not only apply to rural China: countries with bio-industrialized meat, fur and egg farming like the Netherlands or the US are just as bad as countries where people eat bat soup. We've already had several deadly viruses with human-to-human contact that we were able to stop quickly enough, for instance with the bird flu, which killed a veterinarian back in 2003 in the Netherlands.

Surface transmission isn't as risky but it's still a risk nonetheless the droplets in the air need to go somewhere and can last hours to days depending on the surface. 

This article seriously suggests not cleaning schools, restaurants and supermarkets regularly but gives no valid reason why. If one person who had the virus coughed near a steel door handle everyone who touched that handle in the next 72 hours is at risk, It's better to be safe and just wipe it. Not rocket science.

People did this cause we weren’t sure of how surface contact contributed to infections. 

Masks weren’t advised cause historically symptomatic people were spreaders. We later found out asymptomatic spread was a significant contributor. 

The CDC isn’t saying to stop basic hygiene, they’re saying to end ridiculous performance hygiene such as “deep cleaning” in schools. 

Mask wearing and hand washing are the two best hygiene practices you can have during and after this pandemic.

Didnt we know this for like.... A while now? I still disinfect everything cause im paranoid like that but I know that it's not really that necessary. But i also always think that what if the stuff I got were coughed on just before I got them? There's still some risk there. 

But of course the theatrics of disinfecting streets are so stupid and useless.

Also I realized that a lot of people didn't do basic hygiene stuff like washing hands regularly and washing fruits etc before the pandemic started and like..... Y'all lived in dirt like that for real???
