Paula is actually a choreographer.  The concept of this early MV was considered groundbreaking.

Truly, Paula should get the trophy for best executed dance in videos and live performance.  She was the best and most technically sound dancer.  She was a famous choreographer before hitting it big as a pop artist, after all.    Check out 1990 AMA opening - lip synced (like most AMA performances in that day), but WOW. THAT’S how it’a done.

However, Janet’s Rhythm Nation era was certainly the most inventive and intricate dancing of females, and still is to this day, IMO.

I do love Britney’s Slave for You vid though, but Britney is a one-trick pony with her choreo.  I’ll give Beyonce the edge over her because she changes it up a bit.

Kylie is not the most trained dancer, but these moves are simple, effective and iconic. I remember being mesmerized by it when this video was released.

I didn't put it on my list but that towel choreography in Slow is amazing too.

I literally just came out of hour long binge watching her videos and her songs. I did not know she was such a great pop performer. Thanks for introducing me to her. I view her in completely different light now. Thanks

To have lived during her era as a pop star, it was her, Janet and Madonna leading pop music and competing with one another for everything.  She was kind of the Britney of 1988-1991 or so.

Check out Madonna here:

"Madonna trained herself physically with aerobics, jogging and weight-lifting, to cope with the choreography and the dance routines."

That was some really great Paula choreo and JJ and backup dancers make it look so perfectly seamless, easy and joyful.

Yup she choreographed What Have You Done For Me Lately, Nasty and When I Think of You. :)  She actually danced in WHYDFML and played Janet’s friend in Nasty.
